I slept in Sunday morning and then made myself a quick breakfast before the pool.
Two fried eggs, 184 calories and an English muffin-toasted, 130 calories. I got some “I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter” spray. It has zero calories in it. I don’t buy this often because the chemicals in it kind of scare me, but I’m trying to get things back under control. I topped the English muffin with cinnamon and a teaspoon of sugar.
I’m a little sore from yesterday’s bike ride. Surprisingly it’s not my legs: it’s my neck and shoulders! Ouch. I could really use a 2 hour massage…..
I usually don’t wear my heart rate monitor when I swim. I only wear it once in awhile to kind of “check in” and see if my stats and numbers are still the same. I wore it in the pool this morning. Here are my stats:
Time: 50 min 11 seconds
Calories Burned: 360
Max Heart Rate: 148
Average Heart Rate: 128
I’ve been pretty disappointed with my calories burned from swimming for awhile now. When I was fat, I burned between 500-700 calories swimming! The more fit I got, the less I weighed, the less calories I burned doing the same activities. It’s a disappointing fact of exercise. The more efficient you get, the less your body has to work to do things. To remedy that, I try to mix things up the best I can. When I run, I run a little longer, or throw in some hills, or –like last week–add running stairs to my routine.
With swimming it’s hard to change things up. I already do a pretty wide range of styles when I swim. I do a lot of freestyle swimming and breast stroke. But I add in my buoy to work just my arms and shoulders, and I also use a kick-board to just work my legs. I used to swim 3 times a week but in the last month or so, I’ve gone down to just twice a week. I love swimming so much I don’t want to give it up. But I need to switch my routine to add biking into the mix.
Lunch today was another salad. I love salad, have I mentioned that? š
I used a few different types of lettuce, including spinach, chickpeas, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, black olives, and light Ranch dressing. LOTS of veggies! Yum!
I absolutely devoured the salad.
I also had a small piece of Dave’s Killer bread with a little butter (real butter this time). If you’ve never heard of Dave’s Killer Bread, check out the website here: http://www.daveskillerbread.com/
And my Road ID arrived! Safety first!
The rest of today I plan on doing some boring errands, and also a little scrapbooking. I want to organize my Running Photos!
Enjoy the rest of the weekend š

Swimming has some other fantastic benefits (aside from calorie burning) such a muscle toning and improving breathing. I find that swimming actually helps my breathing when I run!!!

You must spend a load of time updating your blog with pictures and so detailed, it’s very good.
I agree about the swimming, it’s hard to change it up – the only way I know how is by swimming repeat laps underwater (ie. just one breath and then going as far as I can, then one breath and repeat).

It doesn’t take too much time to do the blog. The iphone makes it easy. And I usually update while I’m working on the computer (ie watching Netflix). š
