It’s that time again.
Time to step on that scale and see what kind of progress I’ve made since September.
If you are new to reading, here’s a quick update:
August was epic and I ran in the Hood to Coast relay race (check out my Best Of Page for all the links!). September came and I had my first run since the race only to find out I was injured. Having to take 6 weeks off from running was devastating. I mourned a little, whined a lot, then got back on my feet and decided to set some new goals. I would continue swimming but I would also add a new weight lifting routine. I’d been neglecting weights for a long time while I focused solely on running.
I recently posted asking Is it Working Yet? Well this morning I got my answer!
YES! WEIGHT LIFTING IS WORKING!!
I stepped on the scale this morning and saw a huge change. In fact, I was so surprised I stepped off and then back on just to make sure the scale was working….Then I wondered, “What did I weight last month? Maybe it wasn’t 148? Maybe I’m mistaken…”
Why?
Because today the scale read 145.2!
3 Freaking Pounds baby! I haven’t lost 3+ pounds in one single month in YEARS. Years. Not since I was still overweight and had a lot to lose. I am so happy the weight lifting has been working. What a great start to the day.
The measurements weren’t very different from last month but I am so happy with seeing that surprise loss, I’m good with it!
Dinner last night was also pretty good. Michael bought two New York Strip steaks for dinner and a loaf of olive ciabatta bread (one of my favorites).
Michael whipped up a little dipping sauce: olive oil, balsamic and some spices.
The steak was good. We both agreed it was a little on the dry side. I think we’re spoiled now that we’ve discovered how amazing marinading meat is!
Even though I wasn’t really in the mood for more wine, I did have one glass of Pinot Noir with dinner. It just seemed like a good combination with the steak. We’re dangerously low on healthy food in the house–no fruit, veggies…So raw carrots and cauliflower were our side dish.
Dinner was a good, healthy combination of protein, veggies and carbs. Yum!
QUESTION: Have you ever had a super surprise on a Weigh-In day?
Irene
***tossing confetti*** congratulations on your loss!! I always expect to hear a round of applause when I see great numbers on the scale. (But then I’d be embarrassed because I usually do my weigh in’s naked. 🙂 )
Lisa Eirene
That cracked me up!!! And I weigh in naked too, so no thanks on the applause. LOL
Carbzilla
Whoohoo! It’s crazy, isn’t it? Muscle weighs more than fat but that magic it has on your metabolism is priceless. Congrats on adapting to a new routing AND seeing incredible results!
Lisa Eirene
Thanks! I’m pretty happy. And Michael is feeling VERY superior because he’s been telling me for a long time to do weights to lose weight. 😉
Ashley
Have you ever posted your lifting routines? I’ve been out of the loop quite a bit so I apologize if you have and I missed it … but I’m curious!
Lisa Eirene
I haven’t been too specific. I’ve been focusing solely on upper body: arms, chest, shoulders, back, core. I can work on it though.
Heidi
I am so excited for your progress, Lisa! It was the same for me – I sat on a plateau for so many months, but I changed my routine in the gym. I started focusing more on strength training and less on cardio and the needle FINALLY started to move.
Congratulations!
Lisa Eirene
Thanks Heidi! It was a nice surprise and definitely makes me want to stick with weights!
How to Lose Weight – Week Five » 110 Pounds and Counting
[…] When I injured my IT band last September and had to stop running for two months I made the decision to start weight lifting. I did it to stay sane and keep me busy until I could run again. A few weeks later I stepped on the scale to see a 4 pound loss. I was shocked. I hadn’t lost that much weight in one month in YEARS. I know that it was entirely because of weights. […]
