I feel like I’ve barely been able to catch my breathe for months.
My late spring started with helping my parents with moving . I worked on a charity auction committee that planned a successful dinner in May (with only one month to plan it!!!!). And I am on a fundraising committee that is putting together an art show this fall…
School ended and summer started. I worked at a cooling center during a recent heat wave.
My brother also came to visit from California. It was so nice to see him! He got to see my parent’s new house, and see Zoey. The last time he saw her was when she was about 7 months old I think.
I did get some fun in recently. Last year I tried paddleboarding for the first time and loved it. I did some research, found one I wanted to get and then waited for it to go on sale, and used some birthday giftcards, and bought one! I’ve been dying to use it for months. My cousin Anna and I went out a few weeks ago:
After some back and forth about where to go (the place we were going to go originally had Algae Blooms) we did the Tualatin River.
It was at the start of the heat wave and that day was going to be 95 degrees. But we got there around 9:30, were in the water by 10, and done by 1pm I think. Lots of sunscreen! I did not bring enough water, but I did ok.
The Tualatin River is a great place to paddle or float or kayak. The water is REALLY calm and gentle. There were no rapids of any kind. We also used this map, which was very helpful and told you where to avoid. We launched at the Tualatin Community Park. Lots of parking in shade, there was a boat launch, bathrooms.
The river was absolutely gorgeous and peaceful. I could have just laid down and floated away. There were birds and minimal road noise. I would 100% do the Tualatin River again.
We ate our lunch on the boards. I mostly sat or kneeled. I haven’t really tried standing yet. I don’t have great balance. I burned almost 1000 calories. (Old habits die hard, I am trying not pay attention to that kind of stuff.)
It was so much fun! I can’t wait to go out again.

That looks like so much fun! I have only paddle-boarded once and it was into a headwind on the Arabian Gulf when we went to Dubai 10 years ago. I know I would enjoy a quieter and easier experience, but just haven’t had the chance. Hubby and I are heading to Crater Lake in a couple of weeks – I remember reading about your experience there a while back and am finally getting around to making the trip. Hope the weather/wild fires cooperate!
