I have so many fond memories of Rockaway, Oregon. Growing up, this was the beach we always went to in the summer. It’s a small town, there’s not a ton to do, it’s not super touristy like Seaside or Lincoln City, but the beach is fantastic. You can walk for miles and it’s never crowded.
We booked a house here a year ago and I’ve been anticipating this trip for a long time! I couldn’t wait for some R&R at the beach. My parents joined us. The house was super cute, small but big enough for us and it was steps from the beach, which was perfect. (The only thing that it was missing was a hot tub!)
The weather was perfect. While it was in the 90s in Portland it was 70 degrees at the Coast. Sunny and warm but not too hot. This was the first time Zoey was experiencing the beach. She liked the ocean but wasn’t too sure about the sand. LOL
The beach is Bella’s happy place. She was in heaven! When we were out walking we also found some bones! Is it from a whale? A sea lion? It was pretty big!
We took Logan to Flamingo Jim’s (one of my childhood favorites, of course). There was a lot of beach walking. My mom and I checked out a really cute gift shop (I can’t remember the name of it now) that had a ton of cute stuff you don’t need. There were naps, there was book reading. Lots of relaxing!
And Saturday night Logan got to experience his first beach bonfire! So obviously we wanted to wait for dark but it doesn’t get dark in Oregon in the summer until pretty late so we just went after we put Zoey down to bed. We packed up some wood, kindling and recycling to burn. There was already a great fire pit built. Logan loved collecting drift wood for the fire. So it took a bit to get the fire started–it was really windy–and we almost gave up but then we had a good fire going.
It was a fun experience and hopefully a core memory for Logan!
If you are in the area, check out this pizza place for delicious pizza!
While we were at the beach we saw the news about the cougar sightings! It was a crazy story! It eventually shut down Cannon Beach because the cougar climbed Haystack Rock.
Sunday morning we packed up, went for one more walk and then stopped at Tillamook for ice cream on the drive home.
It was a fantastic weekend and I feel refreshed and happy. I love the beach!

My husband and I honeymooned at Rockaway Beach! I love that place, especially because it’s not the big touristy place. It was springtime, though, so the weather was a bit chilly and a bit rainy at times, which made it perfect for lighting a fire in the fireplace and just being cozy. Looks like you had great weather, though the cougar would be concerning.

Agreed! It’s a great beach! Even in the winter.
