First the good! My bff Rachel moved to Canada a few years ago and she was here for a short visit. We had the day to spend together. I had to pick up my wine subscription from Dobbes Winery, so we went down there and did a leisurely tasting and just hung out all afternoon talking and having lunch.
It was so good to catch up. It had been way too long since I saw her. And it was nice to chill and not do much of anything for several hours. Can you tell I’m a mom and overscheduled??
Next, the not great: Zoey brought home a stomach bug that worked its way through the house. (SOB) The worst of it was about 24 hours for me, but I didn’t feel 100% for several days.
Thankfully, I was much better by Friday night when I had plans to see Death Cab for Cutie out at Edgefield with my cousin Anna! We saw them 20 years ago and neither of us can remember where we saw them. We think it might have been in Eugene. We both remember driving awhile, and then parking in a big field and seeing the band in an outdoor venue. But for the life of us, we can’t remember anymore details.
Edgefield is a great place to see a show. It’s run really well, it doesn’t take long to get into the venue. There’s really not a bad seat in the house. The sound is great, it’s outside and very pretty and chill.
We got there a few hours before the show to chill out and then have dinner. It was a great time and so nice to catch up, and I was happy for a break! It was nice to eat a real meal after a week of no food as well. I got a salad and we shared the sliders.
It was a bit overcast and dusk started to come on, then bats came out! They were flying around as we sat there in the grass. It was pretty cool. The band sounded fantastic. They played all my favorite songs, and some of the new ones. It just a really really good night.
Life has been crazy busy in general lately. Logan finished up soccer and school ended. We’ve been spending a lot of time outdoors.
I got a hammock for Mother’s Day. <3 and I painted our bathroom (it’s called Marshmallow). I’ve been trying to fit in more bike rides here and there but I am still pretty stuck at the 5 mile mark. I think it’s more psychological than anything. I am hoping soon to just go out and do more and see how it goes. My hip has been better lately.
Right now I am looking forward to a few mini vacations we have planned for the summer.

So good to hear from you. And such a good catch-up too.

Late to reply as usual. Icky to the tummy bug, but yay for some quality mom time! Zoey is getting so big!! I totally get how you are tired and overscheduled. I just finished reading one of your recommended books “If You Knew Her” – it was a good read – thanks for suggesting it! And since I always give paybacks, I can recommend “Blind Spots” by Thomas Mullen. It was an Amazon suggestion “If you like Robert Crais, you might like..” book and it was really good. We read it for book club, and there were a few things mentioned that folks didn’t care for, but overall it was an entertaining book. Take care and have a great 4th!

Thank you for the recommendation. It sounds good and I love Robert Crais. I remember reading a book about maybe a virus that caused blindness. I can’t remember the name of it now but it was pretty good. It was an interesting concept.
