It’s been a minute since we’ve gone! Michael and I both love it there. The hiking, the biking, the wine tasting, the nice weather…of course that looks different for us now for a lot of reasons. But it was so nice to go for the day this weekend.
Recently Logan was finally ready (after a lot of anxiety and saying he can’t do it) to take the training wheels off his bike. He did a GREAT job!! He needs to get better at the starting part but he’s good at using the brakes and he was so proud of himself when he rode without the training wheels.
We drove to Hood River mid-morning and the first stop was the Mark O. Hatfield trail. It’s paved and it’s love and has great views. Michael and I have done it many times. But it was a lot time ago and we forgot how steep it was. It was too much for Logan. š He just didn’t have the skill yet for hills.
So we decided to go back to Hood River and get lunch. We ate at New York City Subshop, recommended by a friend, and the sandwiches were delicious but very big! So split a half sandwich if you go. There was a cider shop next door so Michael and shared a taster. They were just ok.
After lunch we headed down to the waterfront.
The Waterfront Park is so cool and for some reason we always forget about! We should have just spent the whole day there. There is a lot of parking all over, a lot is free (with a time limit) and there are pay lots. There are some cool things to do down there, like the pFriem Brewery. There is a park, there is almost 3 miles of a paved trail for walking and biking right along the river. There’s a beach and a swimming hole. And of course: kiteboarding and windsurfing:
So the boys biked and Zoey and I were walking with the stroller. It was almost 90 degrees but the wind felt very nice! (It’s very windy in Hood River.)
It was so much fun! I wish we could have spent more time and gone to the beach there. But we ran out of water and it was getting hotter so we headed back to Portland. I definitely recommend Hood River for a day trip!
