So far maternity leave has been a mixed bag. I had the rough first month with a lot of health issues but around 5 weeks PP they started to clear up and I was feeling better. Spring arrived, flowers were blooming, we were having some nice days (even a day of 70 degree weather!) and I was able to go for walks more.
Being outside has helped. It’s nice to get a change of scenery. It’s nice to get some fresh air.
Bella loves our walks, of course, even if we are a little bit slower these days. While my hip /SI is healing, I am taking it easy and not venturing too far from the house just in case it starts to hurt. My goal is to eventually be able to do the whole 3 mile loop I used to run near the house (walking of course). Hopefully next month?
Zoey is a super good baby. She’s really chill. She’s getting more of a schedule, which helps. She still naps a lot during the day and they aren’t the structured 3 naps like Logan was (yet). I am guessing in the next month or so it will become a schedule. She likes going for walks in the stroller now–which is great because she HATED it at first and I was a bit worried that my dream of long walks with baby was not going to happen.
When I was on maternity leave with Logan I remember vividly that it was a lonely, kinda boring, time suck kind of thing. I loved being home with Logan and spending time bonding with him but it was kinda boring. I made a goal of leaving the house every day and I tried to spread things out so I was doing something once a day. Either going to Target, or seeing a friend, or going for a walk with the baby, etc. But basically my life was TRYING to nap when Logan napped (unsuccessfully) and binge watching a lot of shows (Outlander, Gilmore Girls, Blue Bloods, Bones).
Things with Zoey have been different. I feel like my life is SO BUSY AND OVERBOOKED. Since we brought her home from the hospital I’ve had appointments almost every single day. Doctor appointments for me, Logan or Zoey. Errands and stuff I need to take care of. It’s been a bit overwhelming!
I am trying to slow it down so I can spend time snuggling Zoey and resting and relaxing. Michael is working from home 3 days a week, which helps because I can take a nap easier when he can take the baby for a bit.
I am working on the house. I am organizing and purging stuff left and right. Donating things to charity or my local Buy Nothing Group on Facebook. It feels good to get rid of stuff that I no longer use.
When I was feeling better and the weather was nicer, we got out of the house for adventures! We went to Fort Vancouver and walked around a lot:
And then went to Champoeg Park for a picnic lunch and FUN IN THE SUN! It was almost 70 degrees! The boys biked and Zoey and I walked.
Shows I am bingeing?
Only Murders in the Building – ABSOLUTELY PERFECT. Loved it. Steve Martin and Martin Short are brilliant and it’s hilarious and so smart.
Yellowjackets – LOVED IT. Dark, gritty, super messed up but riveting. Watch it ASAP.
For All Mankind – Very cool. “Alternate” history type show that is very compelling.
Ozark – Got caught up. It’s such a good show and my lifelong crush on Jason Bateman is still there. 🙂
Station Eleven – It was a good show, not the best but I liked the main characters and I liked the 2020 timeline a lot.
Do you have any TV show recommendations?

Look at those cheeks on your precious baby! So fun.
If you like scifi and have an okay attention span, I loved The Expanse (Amazon). The first season is kind of confusing – because the main characters are confused – but if you like it enough to stick with it, the character growth is amazing and there are some seriously awesome roles played by women.
Then of course there’s Schitt’s Creek and The Good Place – both hold up to multiple rewatches, but neither are remotely new at this point. And I’ve heard GREAT things about Abbott Elementary.

Isn’t the nice spring weather a welcome change? Glad you’re able to get out and about now that the pain has eased some.
A show we’ve been watching and enjoying lately is The Durrells in Corfu. Very funny with some great characters. We’ve also been watching In The Dark – the main character is a blind woman who gets caught up in some nasty stuff and it’s fun to watch the way she navigates her (messed up!) life and situations.

Thank you for the recommendations! I will look them up
