We spent a long weekend in Washington, in a rented house at the base of Mount Rainier. I haven’t been to Mount Rainier since I was a kid and I barely remember it! But we wanted somewhere kind of remote to visit, where there weren’t a lot of crowds (covid) and good hiking nearby! My parents joined us. The house we rented was super cute and perfect for us. The drive there was….interesting. Very rural. Not much to see, lots of tr*mp/confederate flag/don’t tread on me flags in people’s yards….it was definitely a…vibe. It was disconcerting but, Mount Rainier was fine.
We arrived Thursday evening and got settled in. Friday we had a lazy morning and then went for a hike near the house we rented. We did Skate Creek Hike, 2 miles roundtrip through old forest and along a very low river (I’m sure it’s bigger in the winter time). It was really pretty and we barely saw anyone!
Bella and Logan were LOVING the hike!
After the hike we went back to the house for lunch and naps. đŸ˜€ Then my mom stayed behind at the house with Bella and the 4 of us drove up to Mount Rainier to do another hike. Most of the hikes IN the National Park don’t allow dogs, so Bella couldn’t come.
The second hike we did was the Grove of the Patriarchs and it was super cool! Fairly short and pretty easy.
It was a popular hike! Lots of really huge trees! And toward the end there was a suspension bridge:
Logan loved the bridge! It was a little freaky. It was a nice start to the vacation. That night we picked up pizza at the local restaurant and watched a movie. It was very relaxing.
