Our weekend was quiet. We usually do something for the 4th–a hike, BBQ, something. This year was just low-key. They were banning fireworks everywhere in Oregon and Washington. It wasn’t really enforced but it made for a quieter holiday–which is fine with me. I don’t love the fireworks and our animals sure don’t! After the heat wave and the wildfires last year, I just didn’t want any fires.
Saturday morning Michael went golfing with some friends. Logan and I played outside. I ran and he biked! It was fun.
Sunday we went to the Sellwood Pool again and had a really fun time swimming! It was like 87 degrees, and the sun and water felt nice but it wasn’t so hot it was miserable.
I was chatting with a lady there who said there was a 9 month waitlist for swim lessons everywhere–even private swim lessons. That was so disheartening to hear. 🙁 I was really disappointed that we had to stop swim lessons because of covid and I was hoping we could start up again this fall. It doesn’t seem likely. UGH!!!!
After swimming we had dinner outside. Eggplant hummus from Trader Joe’s (it was tasty), chips and cucumbers, hot dogs and veggie dogs, baked beans.
It was a pretty early night for all of us. I think we were all wiped from swimming outside. There were some fireworks nearby but they were short lived and it thankfully did not sound like a war zone like the last two years!
Monday was a holiday. I went to the gym for a quick weight lifting session and then I took Logan to Summerlake Park in Tigard to meet our friends for a morning of fun! Biking, playing on the playground, a watermelon snack, and then we headed home.
It was a perfect day. Nice weather, not too hot, kind of relaxed. It wasn’t the most exciting and active weekend but we did a fair amount of stuff. I am trying not to overbook our lives like we were pre-covid. I want to keep our slower lifestyle, the most I can, going forward. And funny enough, most weekends this summer are already booked with something. STILL! I am doing my best not to go back to the “old norm”. It wasn’t great for me.
How was your 4th of July?
