It’s often a rainy, overcast holiday weekend here in Oregon. The weather doesn’t get consistently nice until the 4th of July. ๐ But it turned out to be a gorgeous weekend!
Friday! Long weekend! We started it off with happy hour. There’s a new pub near our house so when I got off work early, Michael and I sat in the sun and had some beers and chips.
Saturday we had a leisurely morning. Logan played with his race cars. I worked in the yard. Then we packed up for a hike.
We went to George Himes Park in John’s Landing (between downtown Portland and Sellwood on the West Side). The trailhead is basically in someone’s driveway (a little odd).
It starts with stairs. And a lot of them! We kept going up and there were more and more stairs. ๐ I hit my stair goal for the day almost immediately!
The trail goes underneath the freeway and you can hear it but that disappears after you walk into the forest behind it. It was lush and a little cooler in the shade. It was still uphill quite a bit.
There were a lot of trail runners! We got to the top and the trail went on Terwilliger Blvd a little bit, which is a busy street, but there was a very wide bike/walking lane so it was safe. We walked a little bit on the road and then got the trail back to the other side of the loop.
Then we were heading back down! My watch had to be restarted at the beginning of the hike, so we actually did almost 1.5 miles total. It was short and fast but it was a work out! The hills got us. It felt nice though, and Logan was able to do it.
After the hike we drove to a park on the river for a picnic lunch. It was such a nice day in the sunshine. 72 degrees by the time we got home. I opened all the windows and it felt like summer.
Saturday night was pizza!
It was a nice day.
