Last Saturday we had another couple over for a late lunch outside. We were supposed to do it a few Saturdays ago but it was a little rainy and we all felt more comfortable socializing outside, so we rescheduled.
I prepped the snack plates for lunch (a plate for us and one for them so we didn’t have to share or get close to eat) and Michael kind of teased me for wearing my mask while I made it, but…better be safe than sorry!
We sat 6 feet apart and stayed outside and if we were near each other we wore masks (we weren’t really near each other except when they first arrived).
Lunch was smoked salmon, salami, cheese, crackers, nuts, dried apricots, carrots, apples, olives. My friend Sam made Babaganoush, which I’ve never had before but was delicious!
It was really nice to spend time with friends and catch up and have some kind of “normal” (it wasn’t normal, but let’s fake it, right?). After not seeing friends except from the porch waving to the street for 6+ months, it felt really good to socialize. And to catch up. And to talk about the drama of the week! It felt so weird to not hug hello or goodbye, to wave from 6 feet even though we just spent 2 hours chatting in our backyard. All of it is weird. But you make do. Something is better than nothing.
After they left Logan and I decorated for Halloween.
It’s a huge bummer Halloween is cancelled. I’ve started explaining to Logan that it’s cancelled and that people aren’t trick-or-treating this year but he doesn’t really understand and he’s been talking about it for weeks already. 🙁 2020 just sucks. Even though everything is cancelled, it was still fun to decorate.
Lastly, Stevie is doing awesome. The surgery and healing went really well and he’s doing so good! I am really happy with the surgery and how the emergency vet and our new vet has helped us. I am glad he’s back to normal and happy and playful and just…healthy!

It will be a strange Halloween this year! You may prefer to cancel it completely, but if you’re hoping there will be something going on, you might check on next door or with your neighborhood association, if they’re active. My neighborhood is starting to pull a few things together – a parade for younger kids in the park around 5, the local businesses are working out some safe way to give away treats, and some neighbors are making a map of houses that are planning to have some kind of distanced trick or treat option.
I don’t have kids so am not sure what I would do about Halloween, and any decision you make is the right one for your family! It’s SUCH a bummer that a rare Saturday Halloween is going to be weird at best.

I am probably going to cancel trick or treating…not sure yet. Our little town is doing some kind of drive by event. Not sure the details yet. I am going to do a treasure hunt in the house for Logan. And I think we’ll do some kind of make-shift trick or treating in the house. Hopefully that will be enough.
