On Saturday Michael and I went for another run in the neighborhood, had breakfast and then went to two parks.
The first was the old Kona airport recreation area.
There was a beach there and a garden with a walking trail and some really pretty flowers.
Then we went to the Pu’uhonua O Honaunau National Park. It was so cool! I wish we could have stayed there longer and checked everything out in more depth.
At the welcome center there was some information and then you could walk around and see more huts and then you could walk on the lava out by the ocean and see tide pools with tons of fish and turtles.
I walked out and saw one turtle. The only one on our trip!
It was a place of sanctuary for women, children and elders during times of war.
Then we stopped at a place for lunch on our way back to Kona where we walked around a bit.
Sunday, up for coffee, breakfast, last view from the lanai and then packing for the airport. 🙁
Unfortunately, we got a message our flight was delayed RIGHT after we dropped off our rental car. 🙁 So we were kinda stuck. The Kona Pineapple IPA was pretty fantastic though!
The flight home wasn’t great. We got home at midnight. It was pretty rough!

Hawaii is true paradise. Love your sunglasses. In our neighborhood we are always having gopher turtles crossing the road to get to one lake or the other.

Wow! I bet it’s cool to see the turtles!

Hawaii is on my bucket list. What beautiful places you hiked, swam, and are. It’s just such a long trip from the East Coast.
Happy belated birthday too!!!

Funny, before I went to Hawaii it wasn’t really on my bucket list. I mean it sounded nice but I didn’t have a burning desire to go and it’s really expensive just to FLY there…but we went like 8 years ago or something with friends and then Maui for our honeymoon and this recent trip. It’s definitely a place that I LOVE now. I wish we could go more often than every 5+ years…
Thanks for the birthday wishes
