November was a pretty decent month. Despite the setbacks of an injury, I think I accomplished my November Goals.
1. Try the Spinning Bike at the new gym. CHECK!
2. Take a Turbo Kick boxing class at my gym. CHECK!
3. Do NOT gain weight during the holidays! Meh…..
The verdict is still out on whether I gained weight from Thanksgiving. I don’t weigh in for another week or so. I’m trying to reign in the calories for the next month to keep with the “don’t gain during the holidays” theme.
November was a cool month because of the fun things I did. Lots of cooking, trying new recipes, holiday treats…
Even with the holiday treats (Halloween, Thanksgiving), I maintained my workouts and focused on strength training.
I’m happy that I stayed on track and didn’t get too derailed from the over-indulging or potential slacking off…
This summer I made some monthly goals for myself. According to that, my December Goals would be:
1. Improve my 5k Race time.
2. Register for 2011 running races!
3. Lose 2 pounds.
Hm. Then I got myself injured. Fail. Pretty sure those goals aren’t going to work for me right now. So along the same lines as November, I’m keeping my goals simple and achievable.
December Goals
1. Maintain current weight. Don’t gain weight.
2. Try one new recipe each week that challenges me.
3. Continue the hip strengthening exercise and strength training.
4. Try to live in the moment and be happy with what I have, not worrying about what I DON’T have.
5. Begin training for my first Century Ride!
Starting this month I’m going to get on the bike trainer once a week to get used to the bike again. In January I will increase the time I spend on the bike trainer and hopefully my IT band will cooperate and I can continue my training.
The Portland Century is in July. I know that I can do 55 miles with minimal training because that’s what I did for Reach the Beach. I sort of half-assed the bike riding during the spring and then two months before Reach the Beach Michael and I started biking every weekend.
He commuted to work by bike as many days a week as he could. I wasn’t. I was running for my workouts during the week because I was training for Hood to Coast at the same time. The weekends were the only time I had available for the long, all day bike rides.
A Century? I need to be more focused in my training. 2011 will be structured and focused!
QUESTION: What are you looking forward to most for 2011? What are your goals for December?
Beth @ Beth's Journey to Thin
I have lots of goals for December – but NOT gaining weight definitely needs to be added to my list! I put you on the holiday recipe exchange email I sent out today, so hopefully you’ll be able to receive some good recipes that can help you achieve your goal of trying one new recipe a week for the month!

I saw that and I’m excited to see the recipes! Thank you for thinking of me.

I’m sorta hoping for a fresh start in 2011. I want to lose 5 lbs in Dec (or hit a certain number which will be 12 lbs above goal). It looks like my metabolism is cooperating for that, which is nice, and I’ve lost my Thanksgiving spike already. I’d like to keep up the Precor every other day (though it is making my back a little pinchy).
Our DVD player broke so I’m trying to do a DVR’d workout or free weights on the other days. I’d also like to add spin class back in.
And I’d like clean house but maybe Santa can help with that. The rest is up to me!

I just want to get back below my red line for weight. I have a challenging trip coming up to my in-laws next weekend and the eat out all.the.time. Sometimes 3 meals a day – And not to anywhere that has healthy options. It’s always a struggle when we go there.
I am sort of looking at things for next year. I might do a half marathon. I think we are going to do another century ride as well. We were regularly riding 50 miles on Saturdays anyway. That is my problem with training for a 1/2 – it will interfere with my true love, which is biking!
Lisa Eirene
I may be contacting you about training for a century! I have lots of questions.

“Don’t gain weight” sounds like a pretty good goal. Although I’m afraid I already did in November (I’m still avoiding the scale). Still kind of trying to get back on track after the marathon.
Plus my mother in law always brings like 5 different kinds of pastries and candy when she visit, despite the fact that her husband is diabetic and we try not to eat that stuff. Garr. Holiday.

What a temptress! Can you ask the MIL to knock it off with the treats? I mean her son is diabetic!

My goal is to stay in control and lose 5 pounds in December despite the holiday temptations to pig out! I managed 7 in November but it was difficult so I’m gonna have to stay determined. I’ve enjoyed looking around your blog. You have a very inspiring story!
Lisa Eirene
Congrats on losing 7 in November! That’s pretty impressive during the holidays!
