Back in August I made a list of the goals I wanted to achieve (or at least attempt) for the remainder of 2010. I wrote them all out in individual monthly post and saved them as Drafts.
Imagine my surprise when I opened October’s draft and read this:
1. Plan my running schedule for 2011. 15k? Half Marathon? Triathlon?
2. Start a consistent weight training routine and stick to it!
3. Lose 3 pounds.
4. Take a Spin Class.
Interesting! I was sort of forced to start a weight training program and as a result, I HAVE lost 3 pounds! Funny how the Universe works.
In light of my recent injury, my goals have shifted. My new goals for the next five weeks are:
My New Goals:
1. Follow the doctor’s Return to Running Plan.
2. Do the strengthening exercises my doctor gave me.
3. Continue my weight training routine – focusing on my arms and core.
4. Lose 2 pounds.
I think they are realistic goals. They are goals I need to be focusing on. I hope that the November weigh-in has another happy surprise for me but if I simply maintain what I’ve lost so far I’ll be happy.
I know it’s a bit late to be posting October Goals–half way through the month–but there ya go.
QUESTION: What were your goals for October and how are you doing with them?
Dinner last night after the gym was really pretty good for being leftovers. I had leftover rice and wanted to eat up the last of the Trader Joe’s Chicken Shu Mai.
Brown rice, shu mai and sriracha sauce, with a little bit of soy sauce.
A little bit of that sriracha sauce goes a long way for me. Usually rice isn’t that great as a leftover, but substituting chicken broth instead of water made it really moist.
I made a salad with some Light Thousand Island dressing.
Lastly, check out Amber’s recap on running the Portland Marathon this weekend!

I’ve been trying to think of goals for October and I can’t come up with anything particularly exciting! Sad, I know… But I am still trying to actively train for my half marathon as well as lose a few more lbs. I’m basically just trying to plow through the self-inflicted weight plateau!
Also, can I say how jealous I am that you have a Trader Joes? They look amazing. I want one in my neck of the woods–there isn’t even one in Utah!

I would really miss my Trader Joe’s if I ever moved…
Try weight lifting. It busted me out of my plateau!

haha I love that last quote about the dog!

That is funny! I just wrote a blog about goals I set before Labor Day and now I am reevaluating. My goals are coming along so-so. The good thing is I did not set out to accomplish them by mid-October; instead I have about 80 days.
And I am also jealous you have Trader Joe’s. I read all about it in the blog world, but alas, Florida is not blessed with one. I get to stick with Whole Foods. 🙂

You should take a spin class if you haven’t yet!! I am in the process of trying to lose 100 lbs. (I’m 29 lbs. in!) and most of my weight loss came after I started spinning. I burn about 600 calories per 45 minute class. If you can find a Les Mills RPM class, I’d recommend that. It involves stretching and rest periods and uses resistance more than traditional spinning classes.

My goal is to take a spin class. I just need to get on that and reserve a spot. The classes at my gym fill up fast.
Lyndsey
Wow, you have to reserve a spot…that’s crazy. Our 5:30 class fills up quickly, but I’ve never heard of having to reserve a bike!

You are so right that goal setting is important! This October my goal is to increase the minutes I exercise each week and not miss a day of school with the kids. So far – so good!
Lisa Eirene
How many minutes are you increasing it by? And do you have a goal time you’re aiming for?

Oooh – not that you asked, but I totally think you should do a Tri next year! You’ve got a great background for it!
One of my October goals is to get my bike tuned up and start riding a little again! It’s been a while. I’m gonna have a sore bum. 🙂
Lisa Eirene
A tri is high on my list! I am scared and intimidated and excited at the same time!

I think those are GREAT goals. I hate when I see girls put out completely unrealistic goals and then feel bad about themselves when they dont reach them!
Lisa Eirene
I used to make unrealistic goals, then I’d beat myself up for not reaching them!
