Michael found some photos from when he bought the house! I wanted to share the real BEFORE photos:
Seriously! I never saw this because he painted the bathroom with primer before I ever met him. 😉 So when we started dating, it was a primer-white room with the horrible teal and white sink. LOL Seriously, everything was teal.
We remodeled the main bathroom and hired someone to do both bathroom tile floors (see this post).
Since taking these photos, I’ve replaced the rugs with matching light gray rugs I got at Target. I don’t love the rugs but they match and look better in the bathroom, especially with the color of the walls.
And here are some before pictures of the kitchen:
As you can see, the original kitchen had carpet, wallpaper and ugly 70’s cabinets. You can see some pictures in this post about our remodeling. (And finally having countertops!!)
When Michael and I first started dating, I helped him demolish that kitchen. It was FUN. We destroyed everything–removed all the cabinets and the floor and put in new sub-flooring and eventually tile floors.
We used a product that didn’t work very well for the tile backsplash so we ended up redoing it and honestly, once the green tile was up it make the space look really small. So Michael redid it and used white subway tile. It looks SO much better and makes the space look huge, clean and nice.
So there you have it! 🙂
We spent all weekend working on house projects. I painted doors and trim inside. Michael and some friends worked in the front yard to make it “curb appeal” ready for photos. This coming week is more painting! Oy!

Good luck with it all! I live in NE Portland (near the original Breakside) and seriously hope to die in this house a REALLY long time from now. But you’re right, it’s important to keep it reasonably current over time. The work you’ve done on your house should help it sell quickly when you’re ready!

Nice! I like that area a lot!
