I’ve never been a fan of Daylight Savings Time…it never made sense to me. And now having a baby, I loathe it. I didn’t know what to expect but I’d heard horror stories of how it effects kids. Logan wasn’t sleeping great this weekend, which means we weren’t either. 🙁
Sunday morning was kind of brutal. It felt like I’d been up all night, even though he only got up twice. (It didn’t help that we were trying to transition him to his crib this weekend, either). I want more hours that I can SLEEEEEEP PLEASE!
So I got up, had breakfast and coffee (should’ve had two coffees) and then went swimming. It had been like two weeks since I’d been in the pool, because of being sick, and it felt so good to be back at it.
When I got home from the pool it was surprisingly sunny and nice out and Michael said “we’re going for a hike!” Um, ok…I hadn’t expected to work out twice in one day but it felt wrong not to take advantage of the unexpectedly nice day in November.
We packed up the car and Bella and Baby and hit the road for Saltzman Hike. I don’t think we’ve done this hike this year.
This was Logan’s second hike, ever, and the first time using the baby hiker pack that a friend gave us last year. The ergo just wasn’t great for hiking. It works in a pinch but I don’t think it’s comfortable for any of us at this point.
I’m really glad that Logan fits in the backpack now! It’s a Kelty Carrier– I’m not sure the exact model because it was given to us but it looks like this one.
It works so great! It’s comfortable to wear (per Michael), the weight is on the hips instead of the shoulders or back. Logan loved it too! He was up high and could look around and he wasn’t in weird positions that made him uncomfortable.
It was 65 degrees and sunny at our house. We got to Saltzman and it was a bit cooler and wetter. The trail was covered in wet leaves, too.
You can see a video on my instagram of Logan in the carrier.
We should have brought his hat with us because it got a little chilly. Glad I left him in his long sleeves and pants and socks. It made me think about potentially snowshoeing this winter–and what kind of gear we need for Logan to keep him warm. I have no idea!
Bella was super stoked to be out on the trails again. She sniffed every fern in the forest (her favorite thing to do). We ended up doing 3 miles roundtrip. I was starting to feel pretty fatigued and Logan was getting a little fussy.
It was a good little hike. I’m glad we took advantage of the sunshine because the forecast isn’t consistently great for the next few weeks. Winter is coming….!
Home! Bella was covered in mud. She got a bath immediately. And then later it was time for this exhausted mama to relax with a bath, too! And a beer. 😀
Michael made a great dinner. He blackened some mahi mahi and topped it with avocado and peach mango salsa. We had brussels sprouts with bacon on the side. I wasn’t sure that it would be enough food after swimming AND hiking, but it was surprisingly filling.
And then it was an early bedtime for me. My aching body needed the rest!

What a great day you guys had!

Logan sure enjoyed the hike!

I’m with you on the time change. It’s so silly to be doing it now. There’s no need for it. I have insomnia. Not the same as having a child, obviously, but it messes up my sleep for days, and it already had been bad the week before.
Did you like the epsom salt bath? I’ve never done one of those.
Lisa Eirene
I’ve been using the epsom salt bath for a long time, but this “flavor” is new to me. I usually use this one: https://www.amazon.com/Dr-Teals-Soaking-Solution-Rosemary/dp/B004L5L4FU/ref=sr_1_11_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1478623932&sr=8-11&keywords=dr+teals.

I don’t understand daylight savings either, although it doesn’t effect my sleep pattern at all like it does some people.
Your baby is getting so big!

He is getting big! And heavy! LOL
