I took my lunch early today to beat the heat. While today isn’t supposed to get over 95 degrees like yesterday, I still didn’t want to run in the suffocating heat.
I headed out at 11:00am to run the loop. I did my best to stay in the shade whenever I could.
It was probably between 75-78 degrees and not too bad! Instead of water, I brought my Gatorade, just to be safe.
My run was uneventful but FAST until I got to the Hawthorne Bridge.
The bridge was up. I kept running until I got to the bridge and saw that there were no boats coming, and no rhyme or reason for it being raised. Plus, it wasn’t going back down. I stopped to rest in the shade to see if the bridge was going to lower and it didn’t. They must have been working on it?
Either way, I decided to double back and go over the Morrison Bridge instead.
It probably ends up being the same distance as my normal run around the Waterfront. I had never crossed the Morrison Bridge before, so at the very least it changed up my workout.
I made it back to the office with a decent time despite the heat and the detour. I was dripping in sweat!
I stretched and then took the coldest shower I could stand! And it felt fantastic!

A co-worker gave me chocolate truffles! I was surprised when he brought them to my desk, but it was a nice surprise! I’m going to try and resist as long as I can but I will most likely be ripping into them tonight. 😉
QUESTION: Have you changed your workout routine now that the weather is hotter?
Updated to Add: Hood to Coast is in 8 days! Three more training runs left!

When the weather is warm I try to fit in my workouts first thing in the morning before the heat really sets in!

Are you a morning person? Or do you force yourself to get up early?

I wish those chocolate truffles were regular truffles. They’d be so much better!

As in mushrooms? YUCK!

I’m using my TM more. It’s nice!

Unfortunately, it’s been colder here! I mean, it’s good for running, but we had a high of 60 degrees F here today, for crying out loud! I live in Western Canada, so our summers are short and I take all the heat I can yet.
However, it was a little warmer a couple weeks ago, so I headed out early for my early runs. I hate mornings, but I’m committed to my training so I do what I gotta.

Except for this crazy heat wave, Oregon is pretty mild too. 70 degrees is perfect! 😉
Jennifer
You are AMAZING girl! Especially with that detour you are tougher than me!!
hundredtenpounds
Thanks! I was kinda stuck on the other side of the river so I had to detour! 😉

Where I live it has never been hotter than 87 degrees–ever! Of course, we’ve hardly seen the sun here for the past month.
Your pics in your page header are remarkable!

Thanks for the compliment! I’m really happy with the header. Where do you live that it’s never above 87?

It has been very hot, humid and tropic like weather here in Cleveland. So my runs are usually at 5:30 AM. I just cannot take running in the heat. I also get up at that time for my Saturday morning workouts. I really love to get it out of the way though and not have to worry about it for the rest of the day. And those truffles look yummy!

Getting a workout done in the morning is nice. I do that on the weekends, then I have the rest of the day to enjoy it. It’s harder during the week.
Jen
So what distance did you end up running on this day?
hundredtenpounds
About 4 miles.
