Uncle Andy came to visit!
It’s been like a year and a half since I saw my brother and sister-in-law (they came to visit for our wedding) so I was super excited when they came out to the west coast from Philly to meet Logan.
The night they came into Portland we went to Mike’s Drive In for dinner–the first time we’ve gone to a restaurant with the baby. I had no idea how it would go but he did great and slept through most of it. I ate a little too fast because you just never know–will you be able to finish your meal in time before he wakes up crying?? Thankfully He slept the whole time.
The next day Michael was at work and so I fixed us breakfast and then we went downtown. I dropped them off at Powell’s Books while I took Logan in to work to show him off. 🙂 It was kind of weird to be back in the office after a month off but it was also good to go in and see everyone and kind of be back in “the real world” even if it was a short visit.
After that we all met Michael at the food carts for lunch. I thought it was the best option with the baby and there’s so many food carts to choose from I knew our guests would enjoy picking something out they’d never had before.
They all got thai food from E-San and I got a grilled cheese sandwich (with pesto) from The Grilled Cheese Grill.
We walked over to the nearby park and ate lunch while a guy played violin for everyone. It was a nice outing and Logan did great! He did super great the whole time until he was hungry and I fed him in the car before we went to the carts. It was kind of a chilly, overcast day but at least it didn’t rain on us.
After lunch we went home and Andy and his wife went to the store to get supplies for him to cook us dinner! I was really excited for that because my brother is an excellent and adventurous cook and I knew whatever he was going to create was going to be awesome.
He chose to make this recipe: Chicken With Caramelized Onion and Cardamom Rice. It smelled amazing as he cooked it. He also made baba ganoush from scratch (which I’d never had before) and it was SO GOOD!
I watched him make dinner and even though it looked pretty involved, I think it would be easy enough to make on our own.
It was such a nice treat and even better that there were leftovers. We ate so much but it was really nice. We watched a movie and called it a night. It was a long day for me and I was especially exhausted (doing a lot of stuff still takes it out of me) but it was so much fun I was glad I did it all.

It was great! I loved the pesto on it. Great idea for a grilled cheese.

Is Logan wearing a yoda hat? 😀
Lisa Eirene
He is! Michael got the hat. 🙂

What a beautiful smile!
He looks so tiny in the car seat.
Sounds like a great time. So cool that your brother was able to come visit.
Best wishes.

I was so glad they were able to come out to visit!

Wait. They’re from Philly? I could’ve took the 20 min drive to the Philly airport, hid in their suitcase and been there with you guys, eating ganoush and tickling that beautiful baby’s feet. Sheesh. Next time please inform me of your plans.

Are you in Philly? I had no idea! 😀
