It’s been One Month!
It’s hard to believe that my little guy is already a month old. He’s grown so much in four weeks. He’s gaining weight at the right rate (after fixing his tongue issue) and his little personality is starting to come through.
At around 3 weeks he started smiling! And not just the baby-has-gas kind of smiles. These were real smiles whenever I’d interact with him and make faces and funny noises. It was so cool to see him start smiling! At first it was a little timid and then he got used to smiling and gives us big goofy smiles. My heart melts when he smiles!
I can’t wait to see what he learns to do next. I love seeing little babies grow and learn new things. He’s already outgrown his newborn sized clothes and is in some 3 month sized outfits. He’s not too chubby yet but he’s long so some of the 3 month sized clothes fit in length but are a little baggy still.
In some ways it feels like Logan was always here with us. I can’t really picture my life without him. Our life has changed in so many ways in such a short period of time but it feels right.
We are slowly figuring out how to make things work for us.
I admit, I wasn’t sleeping well those first few weeks. It was getting pretty bad. Logan sleeps in a bassinet next to my side of the bed and I wasn’t sleeping very well. I was so sleep deprived–and not just from waking up to feed him. I think it was like “mom radar” or something because every single peep, squeak, sigh, snort he would make in his sleep would wake me up instantly. On the flip side, when he STOPPED making those noises I’d wake up instantly, too. So a few times a week Michael sleeps on the couch with Logan in the bassinet next to him so I can get some sleep. That first night he did that I was really upset and opposed to it but I slept so good and woke up feeling much better, so now we do it once or twice a week so I can get caught up a bit on my sleep.
The other thing that works is Michael giving me a head start on sleep. If I go to bed first and get a chance to fall asleep, I can usually sleep alright once the two of them come to bed. Generally speaking Logan sleeps pretty well at night. It’s those little noises he makes that wake me up! He usually doesn’t start getting fussy until the 4-5am feeding shift.
Breastfeeding is going much, much better. I feel better about it and more than half the time we try to do it, Logan does really well. He still has moments where he’s just too fussy and frustrated to successfully do it. I don’t mind too much giving him a bottle of my breast milk now and it’s actually kind of nice and convenient because Michael helps with feeding (especially at night time and first thing in the morning) with is a huge relief for me.
Tummy time is iffy. Sometimes he likes it, sometimes he hates it. But something he does like is his mobile and this really cool toy we have in his crib for playtime:
He doesn’t sleep in his crib but we use the crib for playtime (usually while I’m pumping or cleaning the house or something). He watches the mobile and plays with the above toy (a coworker gave it to me and he LOVES it!).
A friend gave us their Ergo and I often wear him when he’s having a fussy day. He loves the Ergo and falls asleep in it.
He also does this frog pose (see below) with his legs. It’s pretty funny.
I’m so in love with this little guy! I have another month of maternity leave then I go back part time for a bit. I try not to think about it too much because if I think about not being with my little guy all day it makes me sad.

What a sweetie. I can’t believe it has been a month already!

It’s hard to believe! In some ways it feels like it’s been longer, in other ways it feels like no time has passed.

I know I have said this before but Logan is a beautiful little guy and so very alert. His smiles are gorgeous and I can imagine the fun you are having with him. My niece is due in 3 weeks for their first baby – a boy also – and she is getting nervous but you seem to be so on board with every aspect and Logan shows it. Have fun. Trying to start a blog myself so maybe some day I will be posting to it!

Thank you Cheryl!
Congrats on your niece! How exciting! Let me know if you start that blog. 🙂

What a cutie! He has a great smile! And the picture of him wrapped in the towel is hilarious.

So far he loves bath time, which is great!

Hi,
Your kid is really growing so fast and within no time, days will come when he will be crawling on the floor or trying to getup to make balance on his feet. I am not a parent so can’t relate with it very well but as far as I remember, my younger brother was chubby too and was a very mischevious too. As far as sleep is concerned, I read somewhere that parents ( specially mothers) don’t get enough sleep in the first year of their baby’s birth. Mom radar is very senstive and when it comes to babies, internal senses of mom don’t want to take any risk so they wake up a mother every now and then ( even at the false alarms).

I can see where that first year is hard for parents with lack of sleep. I’m hoping we can figure out something that works. Honestly Logan is pretty good. He sleeps well at night and only gets up twice to eat. He just makes lots of noises in his sleep!

What a little sweetie pie!
