About 6 months ago I started going to yoga once a week. I went because of my knee injury; I was desperate and willing to try anything that might help. I’d never been a fan of yoga. As a cardio junkie, it was just too slow. I knew I NEEDED it, however, and always feel better after I finish a yoga class.
When I first started going once a week, I found a class I really loved. The teacher was awesome and her classes were challenging, fun and interesting. It wasn’t the same old same old routine that a lot of other classes are like where I am bored to tears. She also started each class with asking what areas of the body we wanted to work on. That was nice, especially on a Friday night after a long week of work and difficult workouts.
One thing that always baffled my mind: I could lift heavy weights, hold 50 pounds while doing squats, 65 pounds for Romanian deadlifts, I could do the overhead press and bench press a decent number…yet holding certain yoga poses for more than a few seconds was murder! What’s up with that? Despite how much I may struggle in some classes, I’m starting to enjoy going. I started to notice that my balance improved (a little bit), I grew to like a lot of the poses (Tree Pose is my favorite) and I love ending a busy, stressful week with a yoga class. It’s refreshing.
I usually just wear my normal workout gear when I go to yoga class. Not exactly zen, right? I was contacted by Yogi Clothing and asked if I wanted to review some of their yoga wears. I checked out their website and they have a lot of really cute clothes, and not just yoga outfits, either. I was sent the following things to review:
YOGI CLOTHING ACTIVE LACE PRINT LEGGINGS
YOGI CLOTHING JERSEY LACE PRINT TANK
When I first got the leggings, I thought Uh oh, these are way too small. They are a medium, which is normally what I’d wear, but they looked so tiny! Luckily they weren’t! The fabric was really soft and stretchy and they fit perfectly. In fact, they might even be a little loose. They are so soft and comfortable. I see now why people wear yoga pants all the time. 🙂
The pants are very cute, too. Michael saw me trying them on when they first arrived and he commented on how feminine they look. The waistline has a black and white lace band around it that is really pretty.
The shorts are comfortable but way too small for me to wear in public! They will work perfectly for under skirts and dresses though. In fact, I packed the black shorts in my suitcase to take on my trip to LA. A little extra support is never a bad thing! The shirt is adorable and feels like silk, so soft on my skin.
I wore my new outfit to yoga and it worked pretty well. I LOVED the pants. They were super comfortable, flattering and didn’t move around during class like some pants can. The shirt, however, was a little too loose I think. During some yoga moves the shirt fell down revealing my stomach a little too much. The shirt was also shedding some fabric. Despite not being 100% satisfied with the shirt, I loved the pants so much that I’m still a happy camper.

Glad you are enjoying yoga and the new yoga clothes!
Favorite yoga pose? Hard to pick just one, but I do at least a few downward facing dogs every day, so I guess that’s my pick.
Lisa Eirene
I like that one too. I think Tree Pose is my favorite.

LOVE yoga!! My favorite pose is Gomukhasana. I love to twist and I am one of those people who can easily grasp my hands behind my back in this pose.
Lisa Eirene
I haven’t heard of that one.
Susan
Also known as Cow Face Pose. : )
Lisa Eirene
Aw thanks. LOL
Tricia
Downward Dog! Every time my puppy comes out of his crate he does one!
Lisa Eirene
Ha! So cute! Whenever I do yoga at home Fat Kitty has to join me. Sometimes he’ll climb on me as I do the moves. LOL
marc
My favorite is Adho Mukha Svanasana .
Lisa Eirene
It feels so good on the low back.

It’s hard to pick a favorite!! I love the wheel, plow, tree, and pigeon a lot. I think I’d have to pick the wheel. I feel really strong in that pose.
Lisa Eirene
Pigeon is one I do for my hips after running. It’s a hard one!
marie
I need to do yoga more. I have struggled with bursitis in my hips, and doing the warrior poses, and the pigeon pose has helped me so much as far as stretching goes!
Lisa Eirene
That’s great! I’m glad you found some moves that helped. I do think yoga is beneficial, especially for athletes, I just wish I could LOVE it like some people do.

I want so badly to try yoga, but can’t find a teacher near me. My daughter in law has shown me a few moves. I agree with you, it is way hard to hold those poses. I like the TREE too, and would love to try the yogi pants you describe here. They look wayyy cool and comfy on you in the pic! You give me hope that I will one day try yoga and like it. Yay!
Lisa Eirene
Have you looked into online yoga programs or tried to get some videos from the local library? Not quite the same as the class, but might help!

My hips get really tight when I run. Pigeon is the only thing that helps some days 🙂
Lisa Eirene
I have to do the pigeon pose on my back. Doing it the other way is too hard! Maybe someday…

I actually never cared for yoga because I was SO not flexible. But since doing Insanity, my flexibility has gotten 100% better – I could never put my heels down doing a downward dog while keeping my legs straight – now I can and that is my favorite more – it seems to stretch me out everywhere.
Lisa Eirene
Wow! That’s great progress!
Melanie
I love yoga but sometimes have a HARD time getting myself to class. When I finish I ALWAYS feel so good. My hips are always tight so therefore pigeon pose really helps plus I like to good old downward dog to stretch my hams. Now…if I’d just practice what I preach!!
Lisa Eirene
I feel the same way. It’s a struggle to get to class but I always feel better afterward.
Debra Lee
I like the low lunge!
Jordan D
Over the last year, I have become totally addicted to yoga. My all-time favorite pose is tree pose, and all of it’s beautiful variations. I also love scorpion!
Lisa Eirene
My teacher has been doing scorpion a lot lately! That one is interesting.
Camille
Happy baby is the best!
Marykate
My favorites are are pigeon pose and tree pose! I don’t have a normal yoga class I go to but I always throw these yoga moves and a few more into my cool down routine!
Lisa Eirene
I like to incorporate some yoga stretches into my cool down too.
Sara
My Favorite poses are the inverted ones! I am also a fan of shavasina at the end 😉
Lisa Eirene
Impressive!

I have a slight addiction to arm balances, crow pose is my favorite! I’m working on side crow – but wow that’s a tough one
demureprincess7(at)gmail(dot)com
Lisa Eirene
Wow! I’m impressed. That one is so hard!
Lynne
I love so many poses, but if I had to pick I’d say Warrior 2-I feel so strong doing it!
Lisa Eirene
Warrior 2 is a good one.
Lisa
I like pigeon but I also like the warrior series because they make me feel strong.
Clothing appropriate for yoga is tough! Regular workout shirts don’t really work for me because they drape but I don’t feel comfortable wearing clingy tops.
Lisa Eirene
I totally understand that.

Hi! I just came across your website and I love it! I love the childs pose 🙂 haha, I recently just started yoga and am really enjoying it since I have back issues. The childs pose helps me relax when I get really worked up, I do it all the time when I feel stressed and somehow it relieves all my tensions!
Lisa Eirene
Isn’t it nice how you feel after yoga?
Sarah B
I love the classic child’s pose. I always carry stress in my shoulders and back and have found this pose stretches it out the best, whether I am in the traditional pose or with an arm across my body.
Lisa Eirene
I sit at a computer all day so my shoulders are ALWAYS bad!
