Do you ever get obsessed with certain things? I go through weird phases where I will eat the same exact foods every day, and then I’ll get sick of it and change to something else. I tend to do the same thing with workouts, habits, everything! I don’t know why–maybe the comfort of routine? Well, here are some of my current obsession:
1. Frozen grapes.
Michael got some black grapes recently and froze a bag of them. Wow! I’ve been hearing about people eating frozen grapes as a sweet dessert for years but never really “got it.” If I’m going to eat dessert, I want chocolate or ice cream. Fruit for dessert kind of sounded lame to me. I know, I’m all into healthy eating! I should love fruit for dessert! But, I just don’t. I like fruit as snacks, instead.
The frozen black grapes are absolutely fantastic. I understand now! I’ve been eating them for snacks and dessert and I love them so much. This is definitely something I will have on hand whenever I can. What a treat.
2. Francoise Hardy.
I first discovered this gorgeous crooner in the darkly lit, velvet-walled Dot’s Cafe. I was so intrigued by the album they were playing I had to ask the waitress. Once I had a name, I went out and got a CD. Then I bought a bunch more. I loved them! The music and her voice were enchanting. Years later, one of her songs recently came onto a Pandora station I was listening to and I “rediscovered” her.
Since then I’ve been listening to her again and loving it!
3. Avocados.
I’ve actually been obsessively putting avocados on everything I can all summer long. I’m trying to limit it to just a few times a week. Even though avocados are packed with healthy fats and nutrients, they are still pretty high in calories. I eat half of one every few days or so. I seriously could eat an avocado every single day if I allowed myself.
I like eating avocados with crackers or tortilla chips. I also slice some for sandwiches, or top my eggs with them. I even had toast with avocado mashed on top for breakfast a few times.
4. Game of Thrones.Β
I know, I’m late to the game. I started reading the books this summer. I loved the first two. Books three and four were…just ok. I’m about to start book five and I hope it’s really good.Β Michael and I started watching the TV show. We are finally caught up. The last scene in season 2 was crazy awesome! Can’t wait for it to start up again. Peter Dinklage is awesome. I loved him back when he was on Nip/Tuck.
5. Trader Joe’s Coastal Wines.
My favorite place to buy wine is Trader Joe’s because the prices are much lower than other grocery stores. Earlier this year I discovered the Trader Joe’s brand of wine called Coastal and I’ve been exploring all of them ever since. If you haven’t tried it, I highly recommend you grab a bottle asap.
I firmly believe that you don’t have to spend $50 for a good bottle of wine and the TJ’s Coastal proves it. They cost less than $10 a bottle and are totally worth it. The Syrah is absolutely fantastic. Grab a bottle of one of the Coastal wines and you won’t be disappointed.
What about you? What are you currently obsessed with these days?
Sarah
I completely agree with your comment on wine! Now that we finished all the wine that was gifted to us, we have been obsessed with finding a cheap Cab Franc. Its hard but I’m determined.

Let me know if you find one you love!

I do the same thing…my ongoing obsession with kale continues, but lately I’ve also been wanting smoked salmon more and more. I’d eat it every day if I could. And Dennis and I have taken to trying as many pumpkin ales as we can this year. Hope you have a wonderful Friday.

I am so bummed my kale is gone from the garden. Kale chips were my favorite thing this summer!

Thanks for the review on TJ’s Coastal wines. I have seen them, but haven’t bought any yet. Gotta love a wine that’s less than $10, and tastes fantastic! π Happy Friday!
Lisa Eirene
Give them a try! I am a huge fan. In fact, we are out, I need to get more. π
Melinda
You know, I haven’t had frozen grapes in ages! I used to have them all the time, and now not at all. I think I’ll go out and get me some grapes!
Lisa Eirene
We are OUT!!! I need to get more. It’s like crack. π

I am obsessed with dried pineapple! I love that stuff, although without tons of biking, I am buying less. It’s something that hits the spot for a sweet thing, but I really don’t seem to overeat it – which is a good thing.
I am also obsessed with home improvement lately. Seems like when we redid the driveway earlier in the year, it just spurred me to get going on my list of stuff to do π Pinterest isn’t helping there, either.
Lisa Eirene
I still haven’t tried dried pineapple! I keep meaning to but I’ve been loving the dried apricots. I only need to eat a few of them, too, and that’s good.
I haven’t necessarily been in a home improvement craze but I am in a purging craze! I am getting rid of so much stuff. It’s great.

I love avocados so much! And, I really need to try the frozen grape thing. Lynn at Actor’s Diet does that all the time! Have a nice weekend!

I never feel guilty eating too many frozen grapes!

Avocados are my every day breakfast item. Think scrambled eggs, avocado slice, and cherry tomaoes. Keeps me full all morning long.
I hear you on the calories in avocados. I find when I cut a small slice or two I stay in a good portion. Or if I cut up tiny slices for a salad, I’m ok. It’s when I mash it for guacamole I can end up eating more than I plan. Funny how that is. I’ve also been taking my usual slice of avocado, slicing a hard boiled egg, mashing in the yolk and the avocado, adding a little green onion and teeny bit salt and mabe a little lime juice. Then I repack the egg with the green mixture. I found the recipe at Marks Daily Apple. I think they are called avocado deviled eggs. Good portion control and very filling snack. Pre made hard boiled eggs at costco make that recipe easy.
The grapes are good, but too sugary for me to have more than once a month or so. Raisins are also in that category for me. I do have fresh pineapple when I travel, if I’m being fairly active. Yummy.
Kale! Total obsession. Trader joes makes it easy with the Pre-chopped kale. Sautee it in a pan with a small amount of coconut oil and teeny bit of salt. I make two servings at a time and re-heat the second serving the the next day.
Enjoy your avocados. I find them filling and satisfying more than the old breakfasts I used to eat before weight loss.
Lisa Eirene
I LOVE the idea of avocados in deviled eggs. What a great concept. I eat avocado with breakfast probably 3 days a week. I WOULD eat it every day if I didn’t care about the calories. And it’s funny because I never liked avocado as a kid.
I’ve been told before that Trader Joe’s has pre-chopped kale. I keep meaning to check it out because I’d love to make some more kale chips.

Here’s the recipe from Mark’s Daily Apple. I made these for a pot luck and people loved them.

Try subbing out carby/bready stuff for these for a snack. Very filling and they tend to fill me up.
Yes! I love the pre-chopped Kale at TJ’s. Saves a lot of work. Enjoy! Karen P

Oh you’re an ANGEL! Thank you for the recipe! I might have to make this for Thanksgiving appetizers.

I’ve always heard such good things about Trader Joe’s wine but none of the branches around here carry it π
Lisa Eirene
Oh bummer! That’s too bad.
sugarmagnolia70
I adore frozen grapes, though I’m partial to green. So tasty!
Lisa Eirene
The green ones were a bit too tart for me. I think the purple grapes have more sugar in them than the green. Or at least it tastes like it!
Alan (Pounds Off Playoff)
My wife loves that wine! I’m going to put some grapes in my freezer right now.
Lisa Eirene
Watch out! They are totally addicting! π
