Sunday morning I woke up and had some time before breakfast to go for a short run. The campground was quiet. I think it was about 7:30. I got dressed and headed out into the warm morning. I could tell it was going to be a hot day.
I left my headphones and music behind. I decided to just run through the campground and listen to the early morning sounds. All I heard was the sound of my feet on the gravel, the birds in the trees, and the sound of my breathing.
I ran out of our campsite and down the gravel road through the campground. I looped around, following the road, and then headed back up the road.
I looped around through the whole campground, passed the quiet campgrounds and volleyball courts and paintball fields.
I was feeling really good. The last few runs I did were stopped because of calf cramps. I’ve been eating bananas again and haven’t had any cramps. Maybe I do need to eat them when I run. The cool thing about trail running is that it takes a lot of focus. I had to go fairly slow because I was looking where I was running. I had to watch my foot placement and be careful. It was cool–it made me feel more in tune with my running and my body.
I ran under the Zip Lines and High Ropes and down the steep gravel road toward the exit of the park.
I ran for a little bit on the lonely, country road. There were no cars out there at that time in the morning.
I ran up the rolling hills and finally decided to turn around and head back to the gravel.
There was a super steep gravel road in the park and I ran up that and headed back to camp. It was a good little run first thing in the morning.
Run Stats:
Time: 30 minutes
Calories Burned: 332
Distance: No idea!
I forgot to take a photo of my heart rate monitor after my run. I wasn’t really running to break any records, I was just running for fun and to keep a balance with all the camping food I was eating. It was a good way to start the day!
After my run I showered in the camp showers and we all had breakfast. I had one pancake, scrambled eggs, 2 slices of bacon and fresh tomatoes from our garden.
After breakfast we did some more activities included in our Adventure Package. The first was panning for gold. It was fun–and definitely something kids would like. I found 1 fleck of real gold and lots of gemstones and pretty rocks.
For lunch Michael and I grilled up the leftover pizza from Rovente’s last Friday night. The pizza was even better as a leftover.
Charles’ brother Matthew arrived with his puppy, Scout, and the three of them went on their treasure hunt throughout the park. Michael and I went our own way on the treasure hunt.
They gave us a metal detector and set us on our way. It was fun! I’ve never done a treasure hunt before. We found some groovy treasures too. I liked playing with the metal detector and I was pretty good at it.
We found mostly coins and rings (nothing of value) except for a few Buffalo Head Nickels. After the treasure hunt we joined up with our friends and we all played disc golf. It was a LOT of walking.
It took us 2.5 hours to go through 18 holes throughout the camp. It was a grueling experience, which is funny because you wouldn’t think it would be hard work. It’s a lot of walking, tromping through forests and bushes to find lost frisbees (especially for my frisbee).
Between the early morning run and the disc golf, my legs and feet were tired from the hard work.
Disc golf isΒ hard. I am so uncoordinated when it comes to sports. But I tried. This helped:
It was late when we finished up. I was glad it was over, honestly. I sucked at playing frisbee and was tired of digging through ant hills and bushes for mine! I was honestly tired from the whole weekend’s activities. We did a LOT!
Disc Golf Stats:
Time: 2 hours 28 minutes

It was definitely a very, very busy weekend but that’s how I like my vacations.
Scout was definitely one pooped puppy! I could relate. π
QUESTION: Do you do any fitness activities while camping? Are you a trail runner?
Amber from Girl with the Red Hair
We haven’t been camping in SO LONG. Eric worked weekends this summer and since those are my days off we never really got to do anything fun. Wah!
I love trail running. I think road running has it’s place but trail running definitely holds a very special place in my heart and I would almost always choose it over road running π

You should take a few days off during the week and go! We took Monday off and went Sat-Monday. It was nice. The campground was quiet Sunday night.
I’m a newbie with trail running but I can see where I’d love that more than road running!
Lisa
what gorgeous running trails!!!

It was a nice run in the woods for sure.

I cannot answer the question because I do not camp. When I did, my physical activities were swatting mosquitos and eating chips and dip. π
But I will comment on your breakfast.
I think fresh picked tomatoes and bacon are one of those food combinations from heaven. Add a little fresh ground pepper and I can be satisfied.

Camping is not for everyone. BUT yurt camping is a lot of fun if you’re not so much into roughing it.
I was glad I packed the fresh tomatoes from our yard. They went great with breakfast!

In my heart I want to camp, but I’m a big chicken. I need to try it though – especially since we have all these boys!

I think yurt camping would be for you then. It’s less “dirty” and if you hate the outdoors you can always hang out inside with a book. π
