I can’t remember the last time I laughed so much. I used to go to Pub Quizzes a lot, especially in my single girl days. My good friend Sam and I made the rounds checking out the different pub quizzes and they are so much fun. We may never come in first place, but we’ve been in second place a few times. It’s a fun way to spend a weeknight evening and it’s relatively cheap.
Wednesday night after work, Michael and I met up with my friend Sam and his friend Jeremy on SE Belmont to grab a bite to eat first. Can you believe that Michael has never done pub quiz before?
We went to Laughing Planet Burrito. I got a pint of the Laurelwood Workhorse IPA (yum) and a bean and cheese burrito.
I really liked the IPA. It was a smooth, crisp beer. My burrito was fantastic too. Brown ride, pinto beans, guacamole, sour cream and lots of salsa:
My burrito was about 700 calories according to their website. I’m sure the guacamole and sour cream was not included in that, but I was good for the day on calories. I devoured my burrito, feeling happy and satisfied. After a quickie dinner, we walked up the block to Hall of Records–an old record store turned pub on SE Belmont. It was a small, cramped restaurant but had a cool vibe about it. Next time: we’ll get there extra early. We found a seat in the back for the four of us.
I tried a sample of their summer ale and did not like it. It tasted like perfume.
I ended up getting a pint of Terminal Gravity IPA and loved it. It was strong and tasty and it took me all night to finish that one glass.
I love pub quiz! It’s so much fun. It’s less about winning and more about just hanging out with friends and laughing. We did really well the first two rounds. Then the questions got tricky.
I was pretty stoked about some of the questions I got right for our team!
- What is the name of Angela Lansburys character in Murder She Wrote? (totally knew this one–do you?)
- What artist painted the famed Girl With The Pearl Earring painting? (I was the only one that got this one right. No other teams got it! Sweet! Answer: Vermeer)
Michael scored us some points for knowing some obscure sports questions and some heavy metal trivia. Sam rocked at the current events trivia. Jeremy knew that the opposite of utopia was dystropia. Smarty pants!
I am VERY ashamed to admit that I got the bonus question wrong. I’m hanging my head in shame:
- “How much does ‘the dude’ write a check for at Ralphs, in the movie The Big Lebowski?”
UGH. Cannot believe I didn’t get that one right! For shame! We were tied for third place for most of the game, but in the end we lost. Oh well, it was still a blast! When it was over, Michael and I stopped for a snack.
It was after 9pm and Michael was hungry. He’d just had a salad at Laughing Planet for dinner. So he grabbed a slice of pizza. I had two bites. 🙂
It was such a fun night! I can’t wait to do it again.
QUESTION: Have you ever been to pub quiz? Did you know the answers to those questions above?

As a 20yo, I’ve never been to a pub quiz. It looks fun but I’d need a good group of smarties along with me… I’m not too good at trivia!
Lisa Eirene
Well you can always join us! 🙂
Jess
1. I Looooooove pub quizes, but my boyfriend never wants to go with me 🙁
2. I am named after Angela’s Murder She Wrote character! I would have gotten that right too!
Lisa Eirene
Woot! Another Jessica Fletcher fan. 😉

we LOVE quiz night! and when Lebowski Fest came to Portland a couple years ago, we went to all the events, one of which was a Lebowski themed quiz… so YEP, I know the check was for 69 cents, and (extra credit…) the date on the check was September 11. just something I remember now.
was the quiz night at Hall of Records?

Do you have a favorite pub quiz you go to? I used to go to them all the time, but now I don’t know where the good ones are. The one we went to was at Hall of Records on Belmont. It was great!
I want to go to Lebowski Fest. I always see it in the news after the fact!
