Maybe you need more potassium? Try some coconut water during your run next time.

Potassium seemed to be the common theme when I consulted twitter. I don’t think I’m low on potassium. In fact, I have to get a blood test once a year to make sure my potassium levels aren’t too HIGH (a medication I’m on can do that). So it’s bizarre…

Some electroylte sports drink might help. There are plenty out there that are low- no cal.

I’ll try Gatorade next time and see if that helps. It’s so bizarre! And something new.

I had some wonky calf cramping this past weekend. After running on and off for the last 25 years, I have no answer for you. Besides the usual suspects, (water, stretching/foam rolling, potassium), I have no ideas. It’s never lasted terribly long and then I forget about it. I would recommend altering up your shoes (non-workout). I’ve been trying to be bare-footed as much as possible when I’m in the house just to work my foot and calf muscles differently. And, I try to avoid my heels/wedges when I’m sore or cramping up. Hopefully, it will just go away on it’s own.

The cramp is definitely a new thing. I never really had them last year when I was training for Hood to Coast. I don’t know if the cramp is me dehydrated or something else. Thanks for the advice!

I was going to suggest potassium too (maybe try a banana?) but if that’s not the issue, then I don’t know! 🙁

I gave up bananas but the next time I run I’ll eat a banana first and see if that works.
