Lazy Sunday
My Sunday was absolutely sloth-worthy. I slept in really late, went swimming, did some laundry and then did nothing the rest of the day. I watched the last few episodes of Justified Season 1 and hours of Samantha Who? I had absolutely zero desire to do much of anything else.
Sometimes it’s kinda nice to do nothing. Especially after a busy day like Saturday. Dinner was the highlight of the day. When Michael got home from golfing, he blackened a chicken breast and we split that. I had a salad with broccoli, cauliflower, half an avocado, tomato and cottage cheese with the chicken. The blackened chicken goes so well on a salad.
Sometimes you just want a big salad for dinner. And that’s okay. It’s healthy and better yet: easy!
So, most of the TV shows and movies I see are on Netflix. I am almost always late to the party when it comes to popular TV series. Most of this is because I am just too busy to watch much TV. This was not always the case, of course. When I was 250 pounds most of my time was spent eating in front of the TV. I’d spend entire weekends on the couch watching movies and television series (like The Sopranos and 24, Dead Like Me and Six Feet Under). It was an escape.
I’ve been impatiently awaiting the return of my favorite shows (Dexter, Californication, Breaking Bad, Mad Men, Weeds) and in the meantime I’m checking out other things! Recently I’ve really enjoyed some new (to me) shows and movies!
1. The King’s Speech: I loved this movie so much. If you haven’t seen it, rent it immediately!
2. Justified. I have a minor crush on Timothy Olyphant so it’s easy to like this series. 😉 He’s a Federal Marshall that gets transferred from Miami back to his hometown in Kentucky. It’s a great show! I loved him in “Deadwood” too.
3. Samantha Who? Christina Applegate is adorable and so likeable in this movie. Her sidekick best friend is hilariously ridiculous too. The episodes are short and it’s easy to breeze through a few episodes without investing in tons of time. It’s a sitcom about a 30-something woman that wakes up from a coma with amnesia. She slowly discovers that she was a total jerk before her amnesia, too!
4. Burn Notice. I love spy stuff! This show is exciting and fast-paced. Jeffrey Donovan’s not bad on the eyes either. It’s about an ex-spy disavowed by the Government and he has hitmen after him in every episode. He uses his Special-OPs training to stay alive and it’s always creative–like MacGyver. 😀
5. Damages. Holy crap is this TV series good. Just when you think you have it figured out, they throw you for a total loop and you just sit there with your jaw hanging open. Season 1 was the best but as a whole, the show is amazing. Glenn Close demonstrates how impressive she is as an actress–playing the good guy and the bad guy equally as well.
These are just a few of the things I’ve checked out recently and totally loved…including Saturday night’s viewing of the creepy “Black Swan.”
QUESTION: What are you currently watching and loving?
Beth @ Beth's Journey
I think we have similar taste in TV. Lately I’ve been loving Treme, Nurse Jackie, and The Voice! I’m waiting for Californication and Weeds to return, too!
Lisa Eirene
I have Nurse Jackie in my Netflix queue. I haven’t heard of Treme.
Kristina @ spabettie
I love a big salad for a meal, when it’s like that – enough protein with the carbs. YUM.
we LOVED Damages! I agree season one was the most gripping – but all of it was good. Every now and then I’ll say “Corporate Malfeasance” in Ray Fiske’s accent. I love that actor! 🙂
We don’t watch a lot of television, so many of these shows I’ve not seen… we stopped watching Weeds a few seasons ago, I’ve seen a few episodes of Dexter here and there (I love it, just don’t commit to it, you know?) and Mad Men kinda went down hill for me. Six Feet Under was my favorite, I loved Dead Like Me and The Sopranos too… and 24… ah, Jack. We own all the seasons of 24. 🙂
Lisa Eirene
I was so bummed when 6 Feet Under and Dead Like Me ended. They were great shows…so dark and creative. Do you remember the weird commercials in the first season of 6 Feet Under? They were so bizarre…
Lori
I love neflix. We have been doing a lot of MST3K, which was one of our favorite shows.
Also Breaking Bad (very good), and I have been on a Humphrey Bogart kick lately.
Lisa Eirene
I haven’t heard of MST3K. I’ll have to check that one out.
Brie @ Brie Fit
We are watching Friday Night Lights on Netflix Watch Instantly right now…it’s awesome! Definitely worth checking out.
Lisa Eirene
I’ve heard it’s a really good show. Is it about football or something? I think that’s why I never wanted to watch it.
Brie @ Brie Fit
Vaguely. It’s more about relationships and small town life than it is about football.
Lisa Eirene
That’s good to know. I hate football!

I love Weeds and Breaking Bad too! The Big C and Prison Break are my other favorites! I want to watch Damages, but there are only so many hours in the day! 🙂
Lisa Eirene
I have The Big C in my queue too.

This is the reason why I’m hesitant to get on Netflix, there are so many shows that if I had them on my fingertips I would probably spend way more time on my couch… and way less at the gym!
On a healthier note, that blackened chicken looks delicious. Love adding Avocado to things too, great texture!
Lisa Eirene
It’s often hard for me to find time to watch my Netflix, that’s why I kinda like watching TV shows on there…I don’t have to commit to watching 2+ hours a night like with a movie.
Necia
Im a Netflix addict! Ive just finished watching Prison Break. I must’ve been under a rock when it was on television. It was sooo good, that I developed a hangover, and had to start over. Never, does a non print capture me like that.
Lisa Eirene
I haven’t seen Prison Break. I need to add that!
Paula
I love Burn Notice. Jeffrey Donovan is my TV boyfriend! 😉 Another favorite is The Closer. Great show!
Tina @ Faith Fitness Fun
I could so use a do nothing sloth day right about now!
And I loved Samantha Who when it was on. It seems like it just ended though with no real ending.
Lisa Eirene
Bummer! I’m halfway through the second season now…I hate shows that end with no ending. The worst was Twin Peaks. One of my favorite shows and they left a HUGE cliffhanger for the next season and then it was canceled. 🙁 UGH!
