Saturday morning I slept in a bit and then had a pre-workout snack: a small apple with 1/2 a serving of peanut butter.
It was such a nice day in Portland that I almost wished I could just run outside and enjoy it! But I had already been looking forward to my weight session in the gym so I went despite the sun. I hit the treadmill first, warmed up and then did some speed intervals again. I did less than I did on Wednesday but I feel like I got in a good session.
I did 3.5 miles in 42 minutes. I’m happy with the intervals I’ve been doing lately. I think it will help prepare me for going back outside to run.And who am I kidding? The treadmill is pretty boring–even with a TV to distract me. It’s nice to break up the monotony.
After running I spent about 40 minutes doing weights. I mixed in three sets of squats throughout the weight lifting as well. I felt a lot better than I did the last time I attempted squats! I did all the usual upper-body weights but today I increased the weight on all of the machines! Yay! The Pec-Fly is now at 50 pounds and I think next week I could do 55 pounds with no problems. I was really stoked to be able to lift more.
I finished up with some ab work with the 10 pound medicine ball (Russian Twists and sit ups with the ball), stretched and Foam Rolled my legs until I couldn’t stand it anymore.

When I got home I immediately had a recovery drink of chocolate milk but this time I added a scoop of protein powder to it.
Something else kind of exciting: Michael and I are going to sign up for the Gorge Ride Bike ride!
It’s 46 days away…we’ll need to amp up our training so we can complete the 38.5 mile ride. It sounds like a lot of fun. The route is a combination of the Historic Highway in The Gorge, open to some cars but not many, and the HCRH Trail which is not open to cars. It’s fully supported and the Gorge is so scenic I think it will be a lot of fun!
It also looks like we will ride up the (very) steep and winding road to Rowena Crest–the hike I surprised Michael with a few years ago for his birthday.
I *think* I can do 40 miles in a month….I think….I hope…..Time to shower and then head out to do yard work in the sunshine!
QUESTION: What’s your favorite post-workout snack?

Nice Saturday morning workout. I think you should have run outside & THEN hit the gym 🙂
The Gorge bike ride looks amazing! Whoa, 38 miles? That’s awesome, more miles than I’ve ever rode on a bike.
Not sure I have a favorite post workout snack, it depends on how hard the workout was, but a Chobani usually does the trick.

That looks like an awesome ride! Hilly, too. You need to start riding every other day with the every 3rd ride being a long one and with hills. If you can do 30 miles in a stretch, you will be fine for the rest. Is it more of a ride or a little competitive? It should have at least one pit stop on the course to stop, stretch, and snack.
My favorite post workout snack? Cupcakes! 😀
Well, usually it is just breakfast because I do morning workouts, which I also love (the breakfast, that is).

I want a cupcake!
We did 25 miles last week between two rides. I’ll amp up the work on my bike trainer for a few weeks and hope that’s good.

Holy guns! Your arms look fantastic!
And that ride looks like it will be beautiful!

Thanks!! I’m trying hard. 🙂
