Last night’s plan was to head out to Beaverton, Oregon and drive the Reach the Beach path. Michael wanted to see how bad the hills were in the first 30 or so miles. I packed a few snacks for the road. I sliced an apple and chopped a few pieces of Colby Jack cheese.
We got to the starting point and that’s where the unpleasantness began. I’m just going to get this statement out of the way: last night was very frustrating and exhausting.
The maps given to riders are AWFUL. They are such crap. I don’t know how ANYONE can figure out what the path is. The map is crappy, the directions are vague, and the path is out in the boonies where the streets are poorly marked. We got lost too many times to count last night. We were both getting tired and cranky and frustrated. It just sucked. 🙁
So we saw tons of scary, intense hills. But really, who knows if that’s the actual route to the beach?? Since we got lost and never found part of the route, there’s really know way to know how bad the hills really are.
The roads are scenic and go through wine country and farmland. But the roads are also narrow with no bike paths and scary blind corners. Several times we drove down the winding road and there was a cliff on the right side. My fear of heights kicked in so I was filled with anxiety as well.
The only silver lining I can come up with after last night’s failure is that at least all the other riders will be in the same boat as us. I plan on just following the dude in front of me. 🙂
We got home really late. Neither of us felt like cooking dinner at 8:30pm but we whipped together a pretty good meal. I made a salad:
-Romaine lettuce
-Baby Spinach
-Garbanzo beans
-Chopped orange pepper
-Craisins
-Oil and Balsamic Vinegar
-Blue Cheese (on Michael’s salad only)
Michael blackened a few small pieces of chicken breast with his secret blackening concoction.
It was really spicy! I steamed some chopped baby carrots and topped them with some Goddess Dressing.
Dinner was delicious. And very low carb! For dessert I had half of a Ghiradelli dark chocolate bar and a glass of non-fat milk. It’s a good thing that there was no ice cream or candy in the house last night–I would have eaten it all after such a stressful evening!
We went to bed completely worn out. I did not sleep well again. I was annoyed with the aches and pains in my body. I’m ready for the bruises to heal!
Breakfast this morning was scrambled eggs with cheese and spinach, topped with light sour cream and some turkey sausages.
QUESTION: How do you deal with frustrating/stressful situations?

May the 4th be with you!
Whoa; it sucks that the route is so ambiguous and hard to follow. I’m *really* impressed though that not once did you mention backing out despite last night’s frustration; you’ve gumption!

Nah! There’s no backing out now! 🙂
The Boyfriend
The photos of the route are not the actual route. I’ve since discovered the correct route and I think I’ve got it down now.

Good to know!
