Tuesday night while we were making the pork chops I prepped the steak to marinade over night.
Add some salt, pepper, freshly sliced garlic and fresh thyme.
But first on Wednesday night I worked out at home.It had been a long day at work and I wasn’t really feeling like working out.
Once again, an example of one of the many excuses I could think of for NOT being healthy…and I did it anyway. Michael hopped on his bike first and I worked out to the Nike Training App next to him. This time I did the “Power Drill.” Part One:
45 minutes of ass-kicking! Holy moly! This was a hard one for me. First, there were less “Recovery” breaks (not that I usually use the Recovery time to rest, but it seemed harder). Second, there were a million Toe Touches. Ouch! I was dripping in sweat. Part Two:
Third, the Flutter Kicks were BRUTAL. There were so many of them too. It seemed like the whole workout was Flutter Kicks and Toe Touches. And Part Three (oh look, more Flutter Kicks!):
It was pretty much the hardest workout I’ve tried since I’ve been using the Nike App. I did about 40 minutes on that and then hopped on the bike. In the 40 minutes I burned 334 calories.
Not a bad number. Not only that I was covered in sweat. Good workout.
I watched last week’s episode of Heavy and started the current week’s episode. I was disappointed that the 600 pound guy wasn’t really trying to lose weight. He snuck food into the camp, didn’t workout like the trainer’s showed him and when he went back home he gained a bunch of weight back. I know that you can’t force someone to lose weight–that they MUST want to do it for themselves. But for this guy–losing weight for his kids wasn’t enough motivation for him. It was just sad.
I finished up on the bike (about 40 minutes or so) and did some stretches. I was glad to see that the Nike App included some stretching at the end of the 45 minute workout. A quad stretch:
And the “Pretzel Stretch” that I do every time I run.
Stats:
Time: 1:20
Calories Burned:Â 674
Michael baked sweet potatoes for dinner, made salad (which I immediately devoured) and then cooked the steak.
Dinner was delicious and we watched Top Chef while we ate. I was feeling pretty good with no stiffness or pain in my knee. It was nice to decompress after my workout. I was happy that Fabio was back (even if it was just for one episode).
And half a piece of apple pie for dessert.
It was a nice night, with the perfect food.
QUESTION: How do you motivate yourself to workout when you’d rather not? And do you like the new format/trainers on Heavy?
Kelly Happy texan
My mantra: you don’t have to like it, you just have to do it.
I say that over and over when I don’t feel like doing something.
Well, I like the “old” trainers on Heavy because they were in Texas. 🙂 I just got used to them. But I love the show.

Yeah you are right…I don’t have to like every exercise I do but for the most part I like them and I ALWAYS feel better after I do it!

I wondered if you were going to bring up the new trainers on Heavy. I am not a fan of this new location/new trainers. The fact that they are basically locked away for 6 months and having their meals cooked for them the entire time? It’s so not real life! They aren’t learning to cope with the changed along with the daily stresses that their life can bring! I much preferred the format of the earlier episodes where they were there for a month to learn, and then sent back home for the remaining 5 months.
This way seems like they are living in too much of a bubble.
And so glad Richard Blais won the main challenge! Mike Isabella needs to go…

I haven’t watched the whole episode with the new trainers yet. I imagine I will stop watching the show if that’s the direction they are taking. I choose not to watch Biggest Loser for a reason–it’s not realistic. I liked Heavy because it was more realistic, showing the struggles of losing weight at home. I’m not too happy with the changes. I liked the old trainers, too.
As for Top Chef, I like Richard a lot and I really want him to win (especially now that Fabio is gone). It was not cool of Mike to steal that recipe and call it his own!

Whenever I don’t want to workout I tell myself to just go hang out at the gym and say Hi to the trainers. 9/10 times just getting myself to the gym gets myself motivated enough by the atmosphere/energy to do a workout. 🙂 Now it’s actually harder to take rest days than to workout!

That’s a good one!! I like that. 🙂 I mean once you put all your workout clothes on, you might as well, right?

The pretzel stretch rocks my world!! Tony Horton from P90X taught me that one and I do it every day now!
Lisa Eirene
Doesn’t that stretch feel so good?? Love it!

Wow, great timing for this post! I was sooo tired tonight and was sitting in my car in the gym parking lot SERIOUSLY considering just driving home and skipping my workout. But I decided to try it, and gave myself the option of a lower-intensity workout if I needed to. Instead, I had a great workout, pushed myself harder than ever, and worked out for 20 minutes longer than usual. It wasn’t until I was walking out the gym door that I even remembered how tired I thought I was!!!
Lisa Eirene
Lynne that is a great story! I love it, and you’re so right–most of my best workouts are the ones that I didn’t want to do at first.

I do not like the new Heavy at all. I don’t know why they changed it.
I’ve had a horrible head cold so have been a little incommunicado. I’ll be starting from scratch on workouts when I’m finally feeling up to it. I’ve lost weight but it’s probably from atrophy. Lol.
Lisa Eirene
I don’t like the new format either. I’ll probably watch one more week to see and then quit watching it.
Sorry you still haven’t been feeling better! You’ll get back to it. 🙂
