…And so is baking. But I’ll get to that complication shortly.
I’ve never been a big fan of Valentine’s Day. Call me the Scrooge of Love but I always felt like it was a commercial holiday that was pointless. As a single girl I hated the holiday even more. I felt left out and like I was missing out on something. Actually it was a similar emotion I felt whenever I saw a skinny girl. That longing…if ONLY…”then I’d be happy…”
This year I didn’t want to be a Scrooge though.
This year for Valentine’s Day I’m giving myself a valentine: No More Negative Self-Talk. You know the voice: “I look so fat in these pants” “If only I weighed XX pounds less” and “I’ll never be a fast runner like So-And-So.” That voice has been in my head for too long and it’s been too prominent. It needs to be banished! If I can do it for just one day (February 14th) then maybe I can do it for a week…a month…forever?
I think it’s the best gift I can give myself. Who’s in?
It’s funny that I always hated Valentine’s Day because I am a total romantic. A total sap. I love romantic comedies (chick flicks) and a happy ending where the girl gets the guy.

In the spirit of not being a Valentine’s Scrooge I made brownies on Sunday for Valentine’s Day. I slaved for hours making brownies out of a box (I know, it was so hard–I mean 3 ingredients? Sheesh!). Okay maybe it took five minutes. I had an idea in my head for how I wanted the brownies to work. I didn’t want the thick brownies but I didn’t want thin brownies either and that’s what I got. I used a baking dish that was too big.
I flipped the baked brownies upside down to get it out of the pan. Then I used my heart shaped cookie cutter to make heart shaped brownies. Aw. How cute, right?
Would have worked even better if the brownies were a tad thicker.
And maybe it would have worked better if the brownie hadn’t fallen apart too. Oh well…the fragments tasted good. And I saved them to put on top of the vanilla ice cream I have. (Waste not!)
Sort of heart shaped brownies…Hmmm. But at least they aren’t broken hearts. Michael ate one and said they tasted good. So at least they are edible Valentine’s brownies. Thank goodness I had the foresight to make a few cupcakes out of the batter to try out my new cupcake tin.
Just a little bit of store bought cream cheese frosting and red sprinkles to make them festive. Those are for dessert tonight. π
Besides learning to love myself for Valentine’s Day, I want to give a big virtual hug to my readers, friends and family. I love my kitties:
And I love you, Michael. Thanks for everything you do. π
QUESTION: Do you like Valentine’s Day? And what gift are you giving yourself today?

Happy Valentine’s Day!!!!
That is the cutest picture of you two! Sorry about the brownies. Bet they still taste good. I made a WW chocolate cake recipe in my “little squares” pan and will fancy one up tonight with Greek Yogurt for dessert (Chris could care less about sweets). I think we’re picking up Kidd Valley burgers for dinner. Awwwww.
My gift to myself today is a very serious job application. I’m very excited about this opportunity so I’m taking the time to rewrite a focused resume and new cover letter and really GO FOR IT!!!!
Have a wonderful time tonight! <3

Happy Valentine’s Day! The brownies still tasted good, despite their disastrous appearance.
That’s great about the job. I hope they seriously consider you because you’d be a good, loyal worker.
That photo of us was 2 years ago when we took a weekend trip down to McMinnville to go wine tasting. We stayed at the McMenamin’s hotel there. It was a good weekend!

I always have liked Valentine’s Day, from the days of making Valentine’s for my whole class with construction paper, paper doilies and glitter! It helps that my husband doesn’t dissapoint – we keep it simple but this year he got my both flowers and a box of Godiva’s. π
Loving yourself is important to being healthy, and this is a good day to be your own valentine!
P.S. Now I want a brownie!
Lisa Eirene
I like that! Be my own Valentine!!
I do miss the days of the handmade Valentine’s cards though. I always liked art projects (And glitter). π

That last picture is a REALLY good picture of you guys.
My post that I just wrote is almost identical to yours…..very funny.

Thank you Laurie!
That’s funny. I’ll go check out your post.

Ironically enough today has been one of my worst negative self-talk days in a LONG time. I just felt UGH today and kept putting myself down when I couldn’t resist the treats around the office. NOT GOOD!
I like the idea of stopping the negative self-talk as a Valentines Day gift to yourself though! I’m usually pretty good about it but sometimes I just have a bad day (like today!)
Lisa Eirene
I have my days too where it’s harder to resist that “voice.” Hormonal days are one of those days.
Don’t beat yourself up about the treats (easy for me to say). It’s only one day!!

I never believed in it or liked it either…..then I met my husband at 2am on Valentines Day and subsequently got married on Valentines day a few years later. We celebrate it now, but only because that’s the day we met π
And I love your cupcakes! They look delicious!

How cute, heart brownies! nomnomnom! They look very tasty! I had full intentions of baking something, and, well, um, that never happened!
I have the most neutral feelings on Valentine’s day. Meh. Whatever. Yeah, I love my husband, but we love each other every day. So. Yea, whatever!
I like the valentine you’re giving yourself. It’s great!
Julie
What a great picture of you two at the end here!

It’s not the looks but the taste that counts. I’m sure the brownies were awesome!
I pretty much just pretend that Valentine’s Day doesn’t exist, so I guess I am a Valentine’s Day scrooge, too. π
Lisa
Freeze the brownies, then cut them. Then you can either stick them back in the freezer or leave them out to eat.
We don’t really celebrate Valentine’s Day, but we had ice cream in honor of the occasion (that was the reason we used for eating ice cream:))
Lisa Eirene
Wait, we need a reason to eat ice cream?? π
