It had been 2 weeks or so since I’ve been on the bike trainer at home. Part of the reason was going on vacation. The other reason was the last time I was on the trainer I had a flare up of my ITB injury. Michael suggested that I don’t push it so hard so fast on the bike trainer so I took his advice.
I set up my bike on the trainer and started my workout with the Nike Training Club App. This time I wanted to try something new. I did the Arm Definer first. It’s a 15 minute intense shoulder and arms workout.
I really enjoyed this workout. The single leg arm curls were pretty easy with the 5 pound weights. I was able to do the modified tricep push-up even though I usually struggle with push-ups. I couldn’t do the medicine ball push-up so instead I used that time to do the Russian Twist.
Then I moved over to the Butt Buster. I modified this workout because I didn’t want to do a lot of lunges and squats for fear of irritating my knee. When it was time to do lunges I did the Russian Twist with my medicine ball.
It was nice working out at home with my TV shows. I watched an episode of “Lie to Me”. During my 30 minute workout with the App, I burned 240 calories.
That’s really good for 30 minutes of working out at home. Then I hopped on the bike.
I took it easy. I didn’t set the resistance too intense and I didn’t push it. It was a fairly easy 30 minute ride on the trainer. While it might have been “easy” the most important part was the fact that I didn’t have any pain during, after, or the next day. So I will build back up to harder workouts slowly.
While I was on the bike I finished Lie to Me and started this week’s episode of Heavy.
I’m not sure how long I will hang in watching Heavy. The first episode was powerful and I enjoyed it. But this episode didn’t really inspire that. I’m only half way through the episode so I won’t discuss it too much. However, it really bothers me that all the people on this show cry and scream about working out. They make it look like they are miserable and in some sort of forced labor camp where they don’t have a choice. That should NOT be the way it is.
In fact, the Rickywayne guy in this week’s episode was screaming at the personal trainer. I turned the TV off at this point. It felt like a trashy tabloid show instead of something positive. When I first started swimming to lose weight I didn’t cry. I didn’t bitch and moan about working out. When I eventually hired a personal trainer I didn’t scream at him or cry that it was “too hard.”
Anyway. Despite the negative TV experience I enjoyed my workout and really liked how I modified it. I got in a good Ab/Butt/Arm workout for 30 minutes and then spent about 30 minutes on the bike. I also tried to participate in the Twitter #fitblog chat while I was on the bike but it was difficult.

While I was on the bike Michael started cooking dinner. He bought two great look cuts of pork. I’ve mentioned a few times that pork is something we really struggle with. It’s overdone, dry, flavorless…but last night the curse was broken!
The pork chop was perfect. It was juicy, flavorful and delicious!
I made a salad to go with dinner. Green leaf lettuce, baby spinach, carrots, celery, croutons, blue cheese crumbles, yellow peppers and broccoli.
I am so happy the pork chops turned out! We were ready to give up. They were so good. Michael said pork chops are now in our normal dinner rotation! Now I need to find a bunch of pork recipes…
It’s difficult to see but YES that is chocolate covered bacon with habanero sea salt. I am both frightened and intrigued by this…what if it’s nasty? Like why ruin bacon AND chocolate by putting them together? But what if it’s awesome and I’m forever converted? Only time will tell. 🙂
P.S. My butt is really sore from yesterday’s workout!
QUESTION: What is your current favorite workout? And what did you think of this week’s “Heavy”?
Tina
Current favorite workout: BODY PUMP! (I’ve missed it!)
I haven’t watched Heavy, but I’m wondering if I’d like it. I watched an epsiode of Made on MTV the other day about a young mom who lost 25 lbs and ran her first 5k. It was so inspirational!

Body Pump has finally made it to my gym! I haven’t taken a class yet because it’s always full but I want to. My friends that have say it’s an ass-kicker! 🙂

Just don’t go to the BP class in Clack on Saturday at 8am. The instructor was awful. If you can, try one of the evening classes during the week.

Good to know! I will definitely be trying the evening class soon (I Hope)!

One reason “The Biggest Loser” always pissed me off was that they overworked people who obviously had not really worked out much. Cool. While I haven’t watched an episode of “Heavy” yet (probably some psychological issue there), I don’t understand the crying. When I was going to the gym regularly (when it was free) I took it easy at first. A couple days of machines and a couple days of pilates. Is it the point of these shows to get people to over exert themselves the first time they do a round of exercises? Seems to me that one wold want to work up to extreme workouts.
It’s the main reason I never started with a trainer. I knew I couldn’t do it. But probably would once I got a little more stamina….
Maybe it’s one way the show makes these people look bad so when they come back and see themselves, they appreciate it more? I don’t get it.

Exactly! When I first started swimming I took it slow. I swam as far as I could then I rested. I didn’t try to swim a mile the first day!!
I thought that maybe they showed them crying and yelling because at the end of the episode is the clip of them suddenly happy and smiling?

Hi! I just found your blog – right now I am loving TurboFire in addition to my old standby – running.
I’veo nly seen Heavy once…I wasn’t that impressed.

Thanks for checking me out, Beth!
I haven’t heard of Turbofire. Is it like kickboxing?
