Friday Night’s Eats:
We made bratwurst and fries! Brats are easy and fast. When I get home from swimming, I’m always famished. Brats are perfect for that. The fries we made were store-bought and 120 calories a serving. I like those numbers! The hidden calories to watch for are in the ketchup. Ketchup has a lot of sugar in it–no wonder I LOVE ketchup!
I had a glass of my favorite wine as well.
Saturday Night’s Eats:
Our favorite dinner after a long bike ride is Turkey burgers. Michael makes the best turkey burgers in my opinion. He mixes chopped jalapeΓ±os and Colby Jack cheese in it.
On the Sandwich thins, I used mustard, light mayo, and spinach.
I was at a loss as to what to have for our side dish. It was late so I picked something easy. Sliced cucumber, sliced orange pepper, and a serving of salty corn tortilla chips. Delicious!
Tonight’s dinner was an experiment really…I picked up two sweet potatoes at the store. Neither of us had ever had sweet potatoes before so I wasn’t quite sure how it was going to turn out. I baked them for about an hour at 400 degrees. They were wonderful! I think they were much better than regular baked potatoes honestly. They didn’t really need anything on them besides butter. With regular baked potatoes I want cheese, sour cream and bacon them.
Sunday was a pretty busy day for me. I swam, went grocery shopping. finished Mad Men Season 2, went to a friend’s baby shower, and then Michael and I went on an hour long bike ride. I burned 336 calories in that hour.
We tried a new wine tonight, a very good Syrah.
Michael grilled up the steak for dinner.
I steamed veggies and did the sweet potato. Tonight’s dinner was a WIN. We both LOVED the sweet potato.
Delicious! Now, time for the Blazer Game.
QUESTION: What is your favorite dinner? Do you make it a lot or is it a once in awhile treat?
Rachel
I really like the idea of the sweet potatoes. I’m with you on russet potatoes needing tons of goodies. Another thing I like semi-plain is spaghetti squash.

I like the small red potatoes too. Spaghetti squash is awesome. We’ve successfully made it twice and then was never able to do it right again!

I’m a sweet potato junky. I use it in wraps, burritos, eat it plain. I actually eat it for breakfast sometimes with eggs. I just microwave mine. I do like them in the oven because their juices run out and make them sweeter, but most of the time the microwave is just easier.

Great looking eats – you have to try making sweet potato fries now – they beat regular fries hands down!

My favorite thing to eat for dinner is breakfast. But my husband doesn’t believe that breakfast and dinner go together…haha! So breakfast for dinner is definitely a treat in my house!

YUM! Last night while we were making the steaks, Michael and I both decided pancakes would be good for dinner sometime. π

I’m excited to have “discovered” a new food. Same old same old gets boring!
Lara
We had burgers last night too π Great idea to put the cheese IN the burger!
I’m the same as you–total ketchup lover! I’ve tried to buy the reduced salt/sugar kind in the past, but it just doesn’t taste the same! Now I just stick with regular organic and try to go easy on it π

Now that I am eating more “real foods” I really notice the difference when I eat something “light” or “sugar free”.
