I left off my story with GregNog. Lots and lots of GregNog. The family party was a lot of fun. There were tons of people there in my aunt’s house and it was so great catching up with people.
Dinner was a theme: Mexican food.
There were lots of different kinds of chips and salsa, guacamole, a 7 layer Mexican dip, one of my aunts made a few different enchilada casseroles and there were fixings for tacos.
As you know, dear readers, I love everything Guacamole and Sour Cream so I was in heaven. 🙂
I did good food wise. While I was munching on chips and dip, crackers and smoked salmon spread, oh and cookies…I don’t feel like I overdid it.
Once dinner came around I was pretty full. So I made myself a taco salad instead.
My uncle dressed his dog up in a Santa outfit. Santa Rudy was quite entertaining.
After everyone was done eating the song from The Grinch came on over the stereo. What was it??
It was THE GRINCH!
Mr. Grinch scowled and grumped along through the room–throwing the gifts at people! Then he put Name Tags on certain people around the room with goofy names. For example:
The Grinch was a huge hit. Usually a friend of the family dresses up like Santa but this was a nice change. The kids loved it too.
My cousin Peter played bartender and made my Grandma a dirty martini.
Peter made a bit of a show out of creating the martini. It was pretty funny. Next it was time to do the White Elephant exchange. It’s fun because my family is pretty good about getting goofy, funny gifts to exchange. Plus there are a LOT of us and we’re all pretty loud!
The four of us left the party about 11:00 to catch the last ferry back to Seattle. It was a good day and I was glad we made the trek up to Seattle to see everyone. Family traveled from Texas, Florida and Oregon. It was so great seeing everyone!
I feel like I did really well with the food. I didn’t overeat as much as I used to. I tried to nurse my drinks for awhile. I took bites of various treats and desserts but didn’t stuff myself until I was sick.
I think I have this whole “eating in moderation” thing finally down!
QUESTION: Does your family have any special traditions?
